Unsolved Mysteries has been airing, off and on, presented in different styles and by different hosts, for thirty-five years at this point. It all began with specials hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, and Robert Stack in 1987, followed by a series that went for several years with Stack as the host. (And Virginia Madsen being added as co-host eventually.) Dennis Farina hosted a revival that lasted a few years. And now a new version of the show that doesn’t have a host is set up at the Netflix streaming service. We’ve been watching and being disturbed by episodes of Unsolved Mysteries for a long time – and you can find out what we have to say about the Stack era of show in the new episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series. For many, the appearance of Robert Stack, clad a trench coat, on a fog-filled soundstage could only mean one thing: They were home sick from school and watching an Unsolved Mysteries marathon, certain a mysterious fate was about to befall them in the middle of the day. Terry Dunn Meurer, co-creator of Unsolved Mysteries, has heard that scenario many times before. "We have, actually, including from my children," Meurer laughed. The series, which ran on and off and across a variety of networks including NBC, CBS and Lifetime from 1987-2010, is back with a new season on Netflix. Meurer, who co-created the series with John Cosgrove, returned to executive produce the 12 new episodes for the streamer alongside...

Unsolved Mysteries Season 1
The Netflix rebooted series Unsolved Mysteries could really use someone like Robert Stack to lead audiences through these mysterious cold cases. He may not have been the biggest named crime-fighting icon, but he brought his Elliot Ness from the original The Untouchables to the scene. He also brought his trench coat. True crime shows are coming from all directions, and most of them follow a similar pattern which was laid out by Unsolved Mysteries. What set it apart were that voice and that trench coat.
Stack hosted the groundbreaking investigative series between 1987 and 2002. It was also hosted by Raymond Burr, Karl Malden, Virginia Madsen and Dennis Farina. No one quite brought the suspenseful gravitas Stack did. He added an element which the new series sorely needs: spookiness and gravelly innuendo. He knew how to make your fingers clutch the edge of the sofa in suspense.

The stories in Netflix’s Unsolved Mysteries reboot are new. The sense of delicious dread you feel when you hear the unsettling intro music… is not.
That’s part of the reason why the reboot of the 1980s-’90s nonfiction series, which makes its debut Wednesday on the streaming service, feels so much of a piece with its predecessor. After all, executive producer/co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer tells TVLine, “the premise of the show has always been: Someone somewhere knows the truth, and perhaps you can help solve a mystery. And that has not changed with the new iteration on Netflix.

One of my favorite shows to watch when I was growing up was the Robert Stack-hosted true crime and paranormal series Unsolved Mysteries. I was fascinated by that show, and I’ve recently been watching episodes again on Amazon Prime.
I’m excited to report that Netflix is looking to revive the series! Stranger Things director and producer Shawn Levy is behind the revival. and he will be overseeing the revamp.
Deadline revealed that this will be a 12-part show that, like the original, “will use re-enactments in a documentary format to profile real-life mysteries and unsolved crimes, lost love, cases involving missing persons and unexplained paranormal events.” Each of the episodes will focus on one mystery.

Netflix is bringing back the true crime/paranormal series “Unsolved Mysteries.”

Terry Dunn Meurer is showrunning this new version that she co-created with John Cosgrove, who will executive produce. Levy and Josh Barry are executive producing for 21 Laps. Per Netflix, this modern take on the classic series will maintain the chilling feeling viewers loved about the original, while also telling the stories through the lens of a premium Netflix documentary series. Each episode will focus on one mystery and once again will look to viewers to help aid investigators in closing the book on long outstanding cases. It will run for 12 episodes.
