In 1998 Ruth was named by the National Trust as one of the 100
Australia's Living National Treasures.
In 2001, she became the first woman to be inducted into the Logies Hall of Fame and was the only woman to be inducted for 15 more years until in 2016 when Noni Hazlehurst was inducted.
Her career began in radio in Sydney in 1945 and in 1948 she joined the
John Alden Company and played in King Lear, Measure For Measure and The
Tempest.
Published a second autobiographical book, entitled "Journey From
Venice", beginning with the funeral of her husband, and detailing their
last holiday together.
Published her autobiography, A Biased Memoir, in 1997.
Educated at North Sydney Girls High School.
Three adult children, Anna, Jane and Jonathon.
Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 1980
Has honorary doctorates from the University of Sydney and Queensland
University of Technology.
