After cinematic adventures such as We Bought A Zoo and the recent Aloha, Cameron Crowe is returning to his music-filled Almost Famous wheelhouse – albeit on the small screen – with the Showtime series Roadies, for which we now have the first teaser trailer. Characterized as a comedy show, Roadies has been picked up for 10 episodes, and centres on the backstage crew of a touring rock band.
The series brings together some impressive talent, both onscreen and off, with Winnie Holzman lined up as showrunner, and J.J. Abrams and Bryan Burk set for executive producing duties. The cast will feature Carla Gugino, Luke Wilson, Imogen Poots and Rafe Spall, among many others, and expectations of excellence are high.

If you're a fan of Almost Famous, you're in luck. Roadies, a new pilot about a backstage music crew from directors Cameron Crowe and J.J. Abrams, has been picked up by Showtime.
The hour-long comedy will feature "an insider’s look at the reckless, romantic, funny and often poignant lives of a committed group of “roadies” who live for music and the de facto family they’ve formed along the way," according to Deadline.
Alongside Crowe and Abrams, Pearl Jam manager Kelly Curtis will produce and serve as the series' music supervisor.
Carla Gugino is set to star in the lead role, and the series is expected to premiere sometime in 2016.
From Crowe, in a statement:
I’ve long wanted to work with J.J. and Winnie, and coming together to tell these stories has been beyond a blast.

Abramorama/Pearl Jam Archives Eddie Vedder in ‘Pearl Jam Twenty’
Cameron Crowe’s history with the grunge scene predates “Singles,” the director’s 1992 romantic comedy about flannelled Seattle youth. Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard says, “He’s known the band before we sold record one.” So Crowe was Pearl Jam’s natural choice to contribute a documentary film to their 20th anniversary efforts, which so far have included a music festival and coffee table book.

Cameron Crowe has spent 20 years amassing Pearl Jam memorabilia: tickets, facemasks, even aeroplane sickbags. As his film about the band hits the UK, he explains his obsession
I'm a collector. I'll keep anything and everything. I'll keep a record, a receipt, a photo, a magazine, a card, a phone number long since disconnected. Everything. It's a bit of a burden, as any collector knows. At some point, the boxes own you. Moving is a horrific experience. And actually trying to find something in these towers of boxes is always a futile endeavour. But there they sit, the boxes, and every once in a while this pack-rat mentality can be a little bit profound. Like today, randomly coming across a dusty container marked: "Pearl Jam – Stuff/90s." Saved for a rainy day. And here it is. Raining.
The timing is interesting. We've been in the editing room for about a year,...
