- Elizabeth Cuthrell is co-founder of Evenstar Films, an independent film and theater production company. She wrote and produced the screenplay for the acclaimed feature film Jesus' Son (starring Billy Crudup, Dennis Hopper, Jack Black, and Holly Hunter). Named one of the top ten films of the year by The New York Times, LA Times and CNN, Jesus' Son won many awards including The Little Golden Lion Award and The Ecumenical Award at The Venice Film Festival. Cuthrell produced the premieres of Denis Johnsons' plays: Shoppers Carried by Escalators into the Flames (The Vineyard Theater), Des Moines (The Flea), and Psychos Never Dream (Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown). Recent films include include The Same Storm directed by Peter Hedges and starring Sandra Oh, Mary-Louise Parker, and Elaine May, Vara a Blessing directed by Khyentse Norbu, which opened The Busan International Film Festival and premiered at the London BFI and Tribeca Film Festivals (winner of Tribeca Online Best Feature Film Award); The Sisterhood of Night (starring Kal Penn), winner of Tribeca Film Festival's Creative Promise Award for Best Screenplay and Tangerine Entertainment Award for Best Director; Meek's Cutoff (starring Michelle Williams), winner of the Signis Award at The Venice Film Festival and The Independent Spirit Producers Award among others.
