- He was the "voice" of NBC television network for many years, as well as the voice of Superman on the "Super Friends" animated series. His voice was also heard in commercials for RCA TV, Keebler cookies, Budweiser, Raid, and as Starkist Tuna's "Sorry Charlie" voice-over.
- Died the same year as fellow Superman actor Christopher Reeve and Marlon Brando, who played Superman's biological father Jor-El, in the first Superman (1978) film.
- As the voice of Superman on the "Super Friends" animated series, he was one of two actors who voiced a character during the series' entire run (the other was Casey Kasem as Robin).
- Following his death, he was interred at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California.
