- She was born in Detroit and moved to Chicago, where she received a bachelor's degree in acting from the The Goodman School of Drama of Northwestern University. To perfect her depiction of blind "Marissa Clark" in Early Edition (1996), she has done research for her role with the Chicago Guild of the Blind and has worked with a seeing eye dog. She is the youngest of seven children.

- She was nominated for a 2018 Joseph Jefferson Equity Award for Performing in a Supporting Role in a Musical for "Billy Elliott" at the Porchlight Music Theatre (Ruth Page Center for the Arts) in Chicago, Illinois.
- She was nominated for a 1994 Joseph Jefferson Award for Actress in a Principal Role in a Play for "The Ties that Bind", at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.
