There are a handful of things that Castle does well. Even better, there are a few things that Castle does Really well. After watching "The Blue Butterfly”, we can now add nostalgia and flashbacks to the latter list.
When there is a series such as this - which sets the bar high with continuous entertaining hours of comedy, drama and romance - it is hard to have an episode exceed those expectations. It’s been done before, with the 3Xk tales and season finales, but this hour was different. It didn’t have your heart thumping, nor were you sitting on the edge of the couch - but it didn’t need any of that. What it did have was solid writing on a case perfect for Rick Castle.
Let’s just start by saying that Nathan Fillion is one of a kind. Fans have seem him in pretty much...

Monday's Castle is taking its characters (and viewers) back in time.
Exclusive: Castle boss and Stana Katic dish on Castle's first muse
As Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic) investigate the murder of a treasure hunter who was searching for the elusive "Blue Butterfly" necklace before his death, the pair stumbles onto the victim's guidebook: a diary from a 1940s private investigator named Joe Flynn. It's not long before Castle brings the old text to life by imagining himself as the P.I. who is trying to save a beautiful young woman named Vera (Beckett, naturally) from the notorious gangster Tom Dempsey (guest star Mark Pellegrino).

Nathan Fillion Noir Gets Lost in Castle
Eventually, there will come a time when Mark Pellegrino (Lost, Supernatural) will have guest starred in every television show imaginable (they’ll do that thing from 30 Rock where they digitally put him into scenes), and to add another to his ever growing list, Pellegrino will makes his first ever appearance on ABC’s Castle. Not one to shy away from strange roles, Pellegrino will join Nathan Fillion and company in the most absurd (in a good way) episode of Castle yet.
According to TVLine, Pellegrino plays Tom Dempsey, a club owner from 1947. Say what? 1947? Yes, the episode is taking on a film noir theme, while going back in time. Tom will have sights set on a private eye and his dame, who Castle (Fillion) imagines to be himself and Beckett (Stana Katic). Tom’s shady dealings tie him to a murder investigation going on in the present day.
