In the first in a new series of wrestling career retrospectives, Chris takes a look at the Extreme Career of Tommy Dreamer…
Born in Yonkers, New York, in 1971, Thomas James Laughlin was a wrestling fan in his youth and at the young age of only 18 years old he became a wrestler himself. Training under legendary New York pro-wrestler Johnny Rodz, Dreamer would debut in 1989. Rodz would train many wrestlers who we all know very well, from Dreamer himself, to guys like Bubba Ray and D’Von Dudley, Taz and others. Working indie federations such as Iwccw out of Boston, Dreamer began plying his craft in the ring, and it didn’t take him long to land a bigger job, that being with Eastern Championship Wrestling, which he joined in 1992. From there, the man formerly known as Thomas Laughlin’s life would change forever (And ever!…. And ever!…. And ever!)

Remember Ecw? I do. Extreme Championship Wrestling was the underground wrestling phenomenon that had a cult following in the 90s and still does today. It was on the fringe. During an era of pro-wrestling that consisted of WWF booking Doink the Clown, Bastion Booger and a more cartoony product and WCW was beginning to sign former WWF talent and starting to resemble the WWF a few years earlier Ecw was the grunge-rock scene, it was punk, it was hardcore, it was edgy. Before WWF Attitude, before WCW turned Hogan heel and flew to the moon on the back of the New World Order of wrestling, brother, there was Ecw doing something that influenced pro-wrestling forever.
Now, I am a lifelong WWF fan and I loved the cartoon era because I was a kid back then, and I loved the Attitude Era, because I was a teenager, and so on, and so forth.

The modern professional wrestling fan may take them for granted somewhat, but three way matches were once extremely innovative. There is a lot of debate around where the concept started in North American pro-wrestling, with some claiming Ecw popularised the match with the infamous Terry Funk v Shane Douglas v Sabu bout in 1994. Regardless of where it came from, in the 1990s it was still new and fresh.
Due to the fairly modern creation of the match, there wasn’t a single triple threat match (as it is known in WWE) at WrestleMania until WrestleMania Xv in 1999. If you can guess who was involved in the match before clicking through the answers, your WWE trivia is on point to say the least.
Since the very first one, there has been a total of 15 triple threats on the Grandest Stage of Them All. All except one has seen a championship on the line,...

Most fans of the original Extreme Championship Wrestling agree that matches between Taz and Sabu on pay-per-view failed to live up to the hype. Ironically, the pair would have some decent bouts on television, but those were mainly tag-team scraps featuring others. At both the Barely Legal 1997 and Living Dangerously 1999 pay-per-view events, many fans were left disappointed by the disjointed action served up by both men.
It was baffling to most why Taz and Sabu didn’t gel despite their lengthy rivalry. With others, such as Shane Douglas and Rob Van Dam, both guys had excellent matches. Indeed, one such bout between Taz and Douglas from Guilty As Charged 1999 should be considered under-rated. That’s exactly what is analysed and assessed here, 10 different Ecw pay-per-view matches that aren’t often given the credit they deserve.

The name still rings out in promotions around the world today; ‘E-c-w, E-c-w, E-c-w’. By all accounts the third promotion in major North American professional wrestling during the heady days of the 1990s, Extreme Championship Wrestling was the rule-breaking rebellious youngest son of the pro graps family.
It would go on to become a humongous influence on both professional wrestling today and professional wrestling over the 15 years since the doors closed on the original incarnation. Well, original incarnation isn’t exactly true, as before it was taking things to the Extreme the promotion was merely Eastern Championship Wrestling.
The Ecw championship was introduced in April 1992, with Jimmy ‘Superfly’ Snuka crowned the first champion by defeating Salvatore Bellomo to become the first champion. Numerous men had reigns under the Eastern banner, but it wasn’t until Shane Douglas picked up the title in 1994 that things really took off. This...

This past week on Smackdown, Alberto Del Rio regained the United States Championship from Kalisto, giving Kalisto a one-day reign as champion (2 or 3 days in air time depending on whether you watched Smackdown on Wednesday or Thursday). Kalisto’s reign as champion is one of the 30 most inconsequential title reigns in WWE history, but where does it fit amongst other inconsequential title reigns?
The criteria for this list are that these are one-time-only singles champions (so Wade Barrett needn’t fear an inclusion on this list for his five separate inconsequential Intercontinental title reigns), and we are relegating this list to Intercontinental, United States, and European Champions. Whether or not the reign was inconsequential or not, if you win the WWE or World Championship, it means something. The Hardcore Title changed hands so often (which was the point of the title) that it could have its own list.

WWE continue with their volume releases of Ecw history with the third Ecw Unreleased release, hosted by Joey Styles, Stevie Richards and The Blue Meanie. I recall Ecw fondly in many ways, and it is fun to go back and look at some of the matches, wrestlers and storylines that made the grungy extreme promotion an underground (and eventually more than that) hit. With comments and introductions from the three hosts, this is a collection of matches and angles that will appeal, like the previous sets, to Ecw fans, and people looking to discover the history of hardcore.
There are some blinders in here, I have to say. But, with wrestlers like Dean Malenko, Eddie Guerrero, Cactus “Mick Foley” Jack, Lance Storm, Chris Jericho, Terry Funk and others, it’s easy to see why there is a high level of quality in some of the matches on offer. Ecw provided...

The Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion was beloved by wrestling fans from the time it became extreme in 1994 right until its end in 2001. Fans loved that they were willing to say and do things that no other wrestling would even think of doing. They prided themselves on taking things to the extreme.
The Ecw Title became a World Championship when Shane Douglas threw down the Nwa Title and announced this new company that would be run by Paul Heyman. Since Shane’s reign started on March 26, 1994 is when WWE started to recognize the title that’s when we will too.
Rhyno was the last Ecw Champion when the company died in early 2001. In 2006, WWE brought back the Ecw brand with Rob Van Dam becoming its first champion. The WWE version of Ecw lasted for about four years before WWE decided to end the experiment.

If you haven't heard about Pro Wrestlers vs Zombies prepare yourself because we're about to educate you on the most ridiculously over the top looking thing in… well, months.
It's exactly what the title suggests: a bunch of old time wrestlers duke it out against a bunch of zombies. There's a plot but who needs it when you have "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Kurt Angle (ha!) and Matt Hardy duking it out against a bunch of dead alives? It looks as ridiculous as you could possibly imagine and I expect that with a group of people, this will play like gangbusters.

A Los Angeles judge reversed his decision on Wednesday, giving Casey Kasem's daughter Kerri the authority to implement end-of-life measures for the critically ill star, CNN reports. In accordance with Kerri Kasem's wishes, doctors will no longer provide infusions of water, food and medicine.
To continue forcing artificial nutrition and hydration would "at best prolong the dying process for him and will certainly add suffering to an already terribly uncomfortable dying process," Kerri's lawyer, Troy Martin, said.

Casey Kasem's daughter has the authority to withhold food and fluids from her ailing father, a judge ruled Wednesday. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy reversed a ruling from Monday that stated that Kasem should receive food, fluids and certain medications until after a court-appointed attorney met with the former radio host and his doctors. Murphy reviewed additional medical records on Wednesday and concluded that Kasem would endure more pain if he was given food or fluids, attorney Troy Martin said. Martin, who represents Kasem's daughter Kerri, presented the updated information to Murphy during an emergency hearing.

The world of professional wrestling has, for many years, featured hundreds of various alliances, groups of men and women who, for countless reasons, teamed together in order to achieve something that they would be unable to achieve alone. Be it a group of good guys sticking together, as friends, to take down the heels, or the bad guys forming a gang as a way to intimidate, attack and overthrow the babyfaces. It has worked for decades and continues to this very day, with factions such as The Shield and The Wyatt Family (oh… and don’t forget 3Mb) running rough-shot through WWE on their way to super-stardom. But, like I said, factions aren’t a new thing, they’ve been around for as long as steel folding chairs, brittle announce tables and sneaky managers, and this release is WWE’s look at some of the standout factions that have firmly...

After about a month of taking in what the WWE Network has to offer I thought we could take a look at some of the things that are worth your time on there, and even just to pick up on DVD. Every PPV event from WWE(F), WCW and Ecw is included on the on-demand section of the network, which means there is hundreds of shows and thousands of hours worth of wrestling to dig through, so I wanted to whittle it down to ten shows that I feel are worth watching, and the reasons will be highlighted too.
Let’s begin with an obvious one shall we?

Yes, Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies is a real movie, and today we have a trailer for it for you to watch. This movie is exactly what the title says it is, and it's an insanely ridiculous concept that you're either going to love or hate. It's just one of those movies that spews absurdity.
It was written and directed by Cody Knotts, and it stars "Rowdy” Roddy Piper, “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan, “The Franchise” Shane Douglas, Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle, and Matt Hardy. They play a group of wrestlers (obviously) who are part of an event at an abandoned prison. As you might guess, the abandoned prison is overrun with zombies. Here's a lengthy detailed synopsis:
“Pro Wrestlers Vs. Zombies” is exactly as it sounds — sports entertainment icons and local ring talent using their signature fighting styles, athleticism and anything they can get their hands on to fend off the undead.

There’s something truly special about the Royal Rumble. It’s creative and filled with so many possibilities. Well, not always possibilities. There are certain years where the winner is so set in stone that even a child can find it obvious a month in advance. Yet they still rule because once every year, WWE puts on a wrestling party. Granted there are classic feuds I personally wish had made the cut, but as a wrestling fan since I was 10, I’m overall very happy and legitimately surprised by not only the feuds that Do appear, but the order they’re in.
A couple years ago when the ‘E released their “50 Greatest Superstars Of All Time” DVD, a lot of us fans in the Iwc, (Internet Wrestling Community for the uninitiated), accused the doc of being blatantly skewed to stars who were either currently with the E, or had predominantly been mostly with the E, throwing in a few token guys who weren’t really WWE guys.

In life, sometimes when you chase a dream you have to take a leap of faith. This jump is not without its consequences, gaining you many bruises and scars along the way. But if you put passion and love in everything you do you could transcend anything you thought possible and make an impact in the world. These words personify one of the most iconic wrestlers in the modern era. A guy that is the best-selling author, philanthropist, comedian, world champion and sock puppet aficionado Mick Foley. In the latest WWE DVD release, entitled “For All Mankind: the Life and Career of Mick Foley” they attempt to get a more in-depth look at the man behind the madness. Personally I think it’s much like the subject it follows it’s pretty good.

The following trailer is real. It is not a leftover April Fool’s joke. There really is a movie titled Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies - and it looks gloriously bug nuts.
With WrestleMania happening this weekend, it’s no wonder that filmmaker Cody Knotts would choose now to release the crazy trailer for his low budget zombie epic Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies. The movie is about exactly what the title implies. I have no problem saying nothing you will see at WrestleMania this weekend, or have seen at any past WrestleMania, will blow your mind like the sight of “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan beating zombies to death with his trusty 2x4 or Kurt Angle anklelocking a zombie until its foot pops off.
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper is also once again out of bubble gum so he, too, shows up to kick some zombie ass. Also grappling with the undead are the likes of Matt Hardy,...

Less than two weeks out from Wrestlemania 29, WWE had to pull a lot of rabbits out of their hats to make anyone care about the biggest show of the year. Hell, for the longest time it didn’t seem like anyone in the company really cared about the show and they were just coasting on the brand name of Wrestlemania going right into MetLife Stadium on April 7. Well, in my opinion that all changed last night on Raw.
I know it’s cliché every time wrestling emanates from the city of brotherly love Philadelphia to pull out Ecw reference some not going to do that say it was extreme. But it was definitely way more aggressive than we’ve seen in recent weeks. As competitors showed more fire and intensity than we’ve seen in WWE for some time.

Let’s go back to a simpler time, a time when Hockey Players and Garbage men, gathered together to do battle inside the squared circle. That’s right, I’m talking about the professional wrestling in the 1990s. A time where talented wrestlers were given over the top, ridiculous gimmicks that did nothing other than destroy their careers. Many men fell victim to the 90′s desire for goofy wrestlers with stupid back stories, but none more so than Doink the Clown.
Doink is a veritable legend in the world of professional wrestling, he also isn’t real. Doink is a character, one that has been played by no less than three people since his debut in 1992. So to be a little more accurate I should say that Doink’s career was not squashed by the absurd gimmick, Doink was the absurd gimmick that squashed the career of a talented wrestler.

WWE Extreme Rules is the time of year where stipulation matches take centre stage, so what better time to look back at some of the strangest gimmick matches in wrestling history.
Kennel from Hell
Watch It Here
So a retired prison guard steals your dog, invites you over and tricks you into eating him. How do you get revenge? Challenge them to a, “Kennel from Hell” that’s how! On paper it sounded intimidating. A cage surrounding the ring, a hell in the cell surrounding that and in between those rabid dogs. The only way to win was to escape both cages and outrun those angry dogs. Sounds exciting. Unfortunately it wasn’t.
The first (and last) “Kennel from Hell,“ took place at WWF Unforgiven 1999, between Al Snow and the Big Bossman. Unforgiven was already an odd event before the Kennel even came out. The first match of the evening...

Magazine doyenne Ita Buttrose has been appointed chairman of a startup aimed at helping publishers turn their content into tablet apps.
Reddo Media Services will offer print publishers the ability to effectively outsource production of tablet editions.
The company is the brainchild of former CBS Interactive commercial director Troy Martin and Shane Mitchell, who has stepped aside as MD of content company HS3 to focus on Reddo.
Mitchell is CEO while Martin is chief operating officer. HS3′s commercial director Andy Corlett has stepped up as MD following Mitchell’s move.
Reddo uses Adobe’s Digital Publishing Suite to produce the apps. As well as helping develop the tablet content, the company also offers to work with publishers as an advertising sales house including developing tablet ads.

Alright here’s the thing, Pole matches sometimes (and I mean rarely) have a useful premise. For example if a wrestler has been using a personal weapon unfairly, it’s a good match to even the playing field and give the heel a taste of his own medicine. Whilst in the WWE, William Regal used brass knuckles to his advantage, so Edge vs. Regal in a “Brass Knuckles on a Pole Match” made at least some sense. But over the years, the “On a Pole” stipulation has seen its fair share of ridiculous moments, and we mostly have WCW and Vince Russo to thank.
Here’s a selection of some of the worst/weirdest/most pointless “On a Pole” Stipulations in wrestling history.
Chair on a Pole Match

Ok firstly, Crowbar reaches the chair on his first attempt! No suspense or battling back and forth. Just one...

"The Wizard of Oz", L. Frank Baum's family friendly fantasy in which a young Dorothy travels over the rainbow after a twister hits her Uncle's farm, is one of the most popular stories of all time due to the iconic film version. While the film celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, the stage version of the musical based on the movie claims The Media Theatre stage as its home this holiday season (Nov. 24, 2009-Jan. 10, 2010).
The Media Theatre will produce The Royal Shakespeare Company's version of the musical, which includes all of the well-known songs from the film ("Over the Rainbow", "If I Only Had A Brain", "Follow The Yellow Brick Road") and a number cut from the original movie ("Jitterbug"). Temple University's Peter Reynolds, who directed Media's popular "Altar Boyz" last season, will take the helm for "Oz".
