BRUSSELS -- Five key Members of the European Parliament will take the first step today to push for a declaration on piracy and counterfeiting in the European Union. The MEPs aim to gather the 314 signatures needed for the parliament to send a powerful political message about the dangers of pirated and downloaded music, movies and software. They must collect the signatures within three months. The five members will appeal across party and national loyalties. They are British Labor MEP Arlene McCarthy, French conservative Janelly Fourtou, Dutch liberal Toine Manders, Austrian Green Mercedes Echerer and Spanish conservative Marcelino Oreja Arburua.
