- Kerstin Ekman was born on August 27, 1933 in Risinge, Östergötlands län, Sweden. She is a writer, known for Tärningen är kastad (1960), Varg (2008) and Societetshuset (1963).
- Ekman is one of eighteen members of The Swedish Academy, the academy that chooses the Nobel prize winner in literature. She and one other member stepped down from this position because the academy did not take a strong stand against the Iranian fatwa against Salman Rushdie.
