Mark Hamill, star of the original Star Wars, has become a founding board member of Berkeley Square Films. London -- Writer/producer/director Paul Tamasy ("Air Bud"), independent film producer and financier Daniel Figuero ("The Bunker") and London and Hong Kong-based venture capital managers Justin Howard, Stephen Metcalfe and John Tibbs have teamed to set up U.K.-based production, finance and sales banner Berkeley Square Films.
Based in the British capital, the company aims to focus on commercial film and television projects budgeted at up to $7 million, the parties said Wednesday.
"Star Wars" actor Mark Hamill will sit on the company's board of directors in his present capacity as a multi-hyphenate movie maker. Hamill and William Morris Endeavor's Graham Taylor will be based in Los Angeles, giving the British banner a presence across the pond.

2000 AD comic strip rights acquired
A group of British investors said Wednesday that they have picked up the rights to characters and story lines from the comic strip library 2000 AD for the development of screenplays and live-action films. The group, which obtained the rights for an undisclosed sum, aims to develop features based on the Britain-based comic books, whose characters include Judge Dredd, Strontium Dog and Rogue Trooper. Working under the banner 2000 AD Films, the group's management team comprises Jason and Christopher Kingsley, co-founders of U.K. computer games company Rebellion. Andrew Curtis, the founding partner of media law firm Drew & Co. Solicitors, is a partner in the venture. Also on board is film financier and production executive Daniel Figuero (The Scarlet Tunic).
