Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2026, and there’s already talk of a tribute show to mark the occasion. But Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell isn’t sure he wants to do it.
“The management said that if we did it, we’d get the original band back together, have some guest singers, and maybe just do a couple of shows,” Campbell tells Rolling Stone. “But then I always throw my hands up and go, ‘I can’t think about that. I’m not ready to go back and do that.

U2 closed out the final night of their Las Vegas Sphere residency by playing the War deep cut “40” for the first time since 2016. Crowded House have unveiled a new single, “Oh Hi.” The buoyant song, the band’s first original music in two years, was influenced by band leader Neil Finn’s support for So They Can, an international nonprofit focused on building schools in remote parts of Kenya and Tanzania.
“I’m hoping the song comes across without needing to know the backstory,” Finn said in a statement. “But it’s very much inspired by these incredible kids and their magnificence.”
Crowded House last dropped new music in 2021 with studio LP Dreamers Are Waiting.

Stevie Nicks has echoed previous comments from Mick Fleetwood, saying “there’s no reason” for a Fleetwood Mac reunion after the tragic death of her bandmate and friend Christine McVie.
Nicks was asked about the possibility of Fleetwood Mac touring again in an interview with Vulture about her new Barbie doll, and explained why the band couldn’t “go any further with this” after getting together in 2018 and 2019 for a 50th anniversary tour with Neil Finn and Mike Campbell standing in for Lindsey Buckingham.

Fleetwood Mac lost one of its leading lights on November 30 with the passing of vocalist Christine McVie at age 79 after a short illness. She joined the band under the name Christine Perfect in 1968 and was the vocal and lyrical force behind hits like “Don’t Stop,” “Everywhere,” “You Make Loving Fun,” and “Little Lies,” each an all-time earworm in rock music history.
Fleetwood Mac was fractious with break-ups, shake-ups, and diva personalities to spare, but none of that can touch half a century’s worth of brilliant music. It defined their legacy back to the late-1960s with albums like their self-titled release, “Rumours,” and “Tusk,” which made the band iconic.
In recent decades, McVie appeared on stage in different iterations of the band’s lineup. Her penultimate appearance alongside her bandmates in full form — before their 2015 reunion — was in 1997, when Fleetwood Mac memorialized its performance with the live album and concert film,...

Christine McVie has spent the vast majority of her professional career in Fleetwood Mac, but she did take a brief break in 1984 to record Christine McVie and followed it up 20 years later with In the Meantime. This solo material is largely unknown to the general public — especially in America — but she hopes to change that on June 24 with the release of Songbird (A Solo Collection). It’s a mixture of songs from her two solo albums plus a handful of unreleased songs, including “All You Gotta Do,” a duet with...

Right up until he joined Fleetwood Mac in 2018, Neil Finn felt it was very likely that Crowded House would never make another record. The band’s lineup had shifted several times over the years, founding drummer Paul Hester was dead, and an attempt to record a follow-up to 2010’s Intriguer a few years prior to that was such a fiasco that Finn decided to shelve the entire project.
“I felt like there needed to be a sense of occasion to bring Crowded House back,” the singer-guitarist says on the phone from his native New Zealand.

While it is unclear if the damage is permanent, we are hopeful it is not.”
Buckingham was forced out of Fleetwood Mac last year when Stevie Nicks made it clear to the rest of the band that she could no longer work with him.

Stevie Nicks was sitting on Sly Stone’s bed one afternoon in early 1976 when she wrote “Dreams.” Stone’s studio — inside the Record Plant in Sausalito, California — was down the hall from where she and the rest of Fleetwood Mac were recording Rumours, and she’d often go there for a break. She’d bring in her electric piano, journals and art and hang out on the funk king’s black-curtained bed. “It wasn’t my room, so it could be fabulous,” she recalled in the 1997 Classic Albums documentary on Rumours.

There’s a genuinely spooky song on your new album called “Walk Into the Sea.” Where did that come from?
Well, the thing with the record was that I was really led by my emotions.

Lindsey Buckingham is done waiting for Fleetwood Mac to cough up money he says he's owed ... so the former lead guitarist for the group is suing his old bandmates for dropping him and, more importantly, not paying him. In the suit, Lindsey says he and the rest of the legendary band signed a deal with Live Nation for a 60-show tour over 2 years and they were each going to make about $12-14 million. As we reported,...

Lindsey Buckingham has filed a lawsuit against Fleetwood Mac for breach of fiduciary duty, breach of oral contract and intentional interference with prospective economic advantage, among other charges, according to legal documents obtained by Rolling Stone. The group parted ways with Buckingham in January and replaced him with Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Neil Finn of Crowded House. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, states that he asked the group to postpone their tour three months so he could play shows with his solo band. He says...

Lindsey Buckingham and his wife, Kristen, were at home in Los Angeles on January 28th, watching the Grammy Awards ceremony on television, when the phone rang. Fleetwood Mac’s manager Irving Azoff was calling with a message for Buckingham from Stevie Nicks. The gist of it, Buckingham says, quoting Azoff: “Stevie never wants to be on a stage with you again.”

In a little over a week, Fleetwood Mac will begin yet another chapter in their tumultuous saga when they launch a U.S. tour without Lindsey Buckingham. Handling his guitar parts will be Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and taking on his vocals will be Neil Finn of Crowded House. The group has been unwilling to explain in any detail why Buckingham left the band, though Stevie Nicks did say that he was unwilling to commit to a tour in a timetable that agreed with everyone else.

Fleetwood Mac debuted their new lineup by performing “The Chain” and “Gypsy” on Wednesday’s Ellen.
The televised appearance marked the longtime band’s first time playing live alongside guitarists Mike Campbell, formerly of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Crowded House’s Neil Finn, both of whom stepped in after Fleetwood Mac fired Lindsey Buckingham in April.
Both guitarists featured prominently in the performances, flanking to the left and right of Stevie Nicks; on both “The Chain” and “Gypsy,” Finn handled the vocal parts previously sung by Buckingham, particularly on “The Chain,...

As Mark Knopfler proved this year by not even showing up when his band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Dire Straits are never, ever getting back together. However, that’s not stopping past members, including keyboardist Alan Clark, percussionist Danny Cummings, saxophonist Mel Collins and guitarist Phil Palmer, from hitting the road in late September for a tour under the banner Dsl Dire Straits Legacy. The group will be joined by Heartbreakers drummer Steve Ferrone and the Buggles’ Trevor Horn on bass along with Marco...

The 40-plus-year saga of the Lindsey Buckingham-Stevie Nicks incarnation of Fleetwood Mac took another turn today, when Buckingham — who recently parted ways with the band — announced not just a three-disc compilation of his solo material but a tour to support it… which will begin four days after the Fleetwood Mac tour that he didn’t want to be on.
To be fair, according to Nicks, Buckingham said he didn’t want to be on the road for a year, and his tour lasts just two months. Buckingham’s tour launches in Portland, Or on Oct. 7 and wraps in Pennsylvania on Dec. 9 (see the full dates below). Fleetwood Mac’s tour begins Oct. 3 in Oklahoma and is scheduled through April.

Mick Fleetwood's typically a man of few words when it comes to band drama, and he only needed one word when asked if a major rumor circulating is true -- "No." The Fleetwood Mac co-founder and drummer repeatedly denied speculation that Stevie Nicks is responsible for Lindsey Buckingham's departure when we got him at Lax Friday night. The alleged story is Nicks wanted Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to replace...

Lindsey Buckingham is breaking his silence on the matter of his exit from Fleetwood Mac. Buckingham confirmed on stage that leaving the band of 43 years was not his "choice" just over one month after Rolling Stone reported that the rocker had been "fired" due to a disagreement over an upcoming tour and replaced by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House. While the band has done some talking on the subject, Lindsey has kept mum—until now. "It's been an interesting time on a lot of levels for me personally. Probably some of you know, that for the last three months I have taken leave of my band of 43 years, Fleetwood Mac. This was not...

What kind of additions Neil Finn and Mike Campbell will make to Fleetwood Mac lineup is a question that will have to wait till the newly reconfigured lineup goes on tour in October. But at Largo Thursday night (May 3), some 280 fans got a partial glimpse as a pop-up show by father-and-son partners Neil and Liam Finn found Campbell as a surprise guest on two songs, one of them a deeper-than-deep Mac track.
“Playing at Largo is really about having wonderful surprises occur,” said the elder Finn, “and I’d like to welcome to the stage now a wonderful guitar player I’ve just had the extreme pleasure of learning how to play with — and there’s still more to learn, but for now let’s welcome Mike Campbell!” They then proceeded to perform a short but sweet version of Fleetwood Mac’s 1969 single “Man of the World,” a Peter Green...
