By the late-1980s, Paul McCartney may have been the only artist on the planet uninterested in sounding like the Beatles. But then his new collaborator, fellow British superstar Elvis Costello, reunited him with an old friend: his iconic violin-shaped Hofner bass. The instrument had last seen action during the band’s final live performance on the roof of their London offices almost two decades before, and a faded setlist from their last tour remained affixed to the side with yellowed scotch tape. “He was a big Beatles fan and said, ‘Hey, do you still use your Hofner?’” McCartney tells People exclusively.

Forecasters have warned that we may need to get used to washout summers, perhaps for the next 10 years. From wildlife to camping to fashion, what will this do to us a nation?
1 Not so happy campers
Campers love good weather. Last May 56% more people turned up at the Camping and Caravanning Club's sites than in 2011, thanks to fine conditions. The opposite happens when it rains. But if there is a cheery side to a decade of wet summers, it might be that we finally hear no more about "glamping". But be warned, we already have "wamping" – wet weather camping.
2 I predict no riots
From the Notting Hill riots to Toxteth, Brixton and of course the UK riots that spread across the country in 2011 – all of them took place in the summer. Some of those involved in the 2011 riots said the rain was a key factor in the unrest ending. So...

Los Angeles — Clare Fischer, a Grammy-winning composer who wrote scores for television and movies and worked with legendary musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, has died. He was 83.
Fischer died Thursday at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank after suffering a heart attack two weeks ago, family spokeswoman Claris Sayadian-Dodge said.
An uncommonly versatile musician, Fischer worked as a composer, arranger, conductor and pianist for more than 60 years.
He is best known for his arrangements for Prince, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, Branford Marsalis, Raphael Saadiq, Usher and Brandy.
Nominated for a Grammy 11 times in the Best Instrumental Arrangement category, Fischer won in 1986 for his album "Free Fall" and in 1981 for "Salsa Picante plus 2+2."
Born in Durand, Mich., Fischer got his start playing piano and writing jazz-inspired arrangements for the group The Hi-Lo's, an a capella quartet popular in the 1950s.
He worked as the arranger on Gillespie's "Jazz Portrait of Duke Ellington.
