Retired NHL star Theoren Fleury won a Stanley Cup during his 16-year career in the pro hockey league and an Olympic gold medal with Team Canada.
But he also made headlines in 2009 by jolting Canada's national pastime as he revealed he had been sexually abused as a teenager by a former coach. So Fleury is not surprised by Britain's growing youth soccer sex abuse scandal, judging it far bigger in scope and impact than Canada's junior hockey scandal and the Penn State child sex assault scandal involving convicted pedophile Jerry Sandusky and American football.

I think this could be a break-out year for 'Battle of the Blades,' the Canadian competitive reality show that takes a 'Dancing with the Stars' approach to pairs figure skating, except the celebs are all male hockey players and the pros are all medal-winning female figure skaters. The show did plenty of business in its freshman year last year, but after the first real episode last night, I woke up to find several references to Theo Fleury's eyeliner in my Facebook newsfeed. If it's on Facebook, it must be big.
CBC plans to take advantage by placing another uniquely Canadian show in the Monday night timeslot right after the results show. It's called 'Men With Brooms,' and it's loosely based on a blockbuster Canadian movie. What constitutes a Canadian blockbuster? Slightly less than $5 million at the box office (that's Cad,...

Without any surprises, one of the most popular Canadian reality shows is back. For that matter, the Toronto Star revealed yesterday the identity of the competitors for the second season of this show that has been compared to Dancing with the Stars.
Here's the concept of Battle of the Blades: this reality pairs up eight retired NHL players with eight female figure skaters. Each week, each team will have to perform a choreography on Sunday nights live in Toronto. The next day, three team facing elimination will compete. At the end of this result day, the public's choice will be revealed. With that said, the winning team gets to donate $100,000 to a cause of their choice.
For this year, the Toronto Star revealed that participants, among the hockey players, include Theoren Fleury, Kelly Chase, Russ Courtnall, Valeri Bure, P.J. Stock, Patrice Brisebois, Todd Warriner and Georges Laraque.
