Aside being a composer,
Jacob Gade was also a conductor of a 24 man
orchestra at the Paladsteatret silent movie theater 1921 - 1927 in
Copenhagen. In 1925 he composed the renowned piece of music Tango
Jalousie or Tango Tsigane, which was the proper title. This piece of
music was used as score to the movie
Don Q Son of Zorro (1925) with
Douglas Fairbanks and
Mary Astor
and was played at the movie's premiere in Copenhagen the 14th of
September 1925.
The Tango Jalousie gained world wide popularity and the royalties from
this melody is the basis of the Jacob Gades Legat Foundation in
favorite of young aspiring musicians.
