Disney Branded Television’s animated series Firebuds from Emmy-winning creator and executive producer Craig Gerber (Disney’s Elena of Avalor and Sofia the First) follows a team of young first responders and their talking vehicle sidekicks.
Two upcoming episodes, titled “Cleft Hood” and “All That Jazzy,” will spotlight disability representation addressing volunteerism, community service, teamwork, wheelchair use, and cleft palate disorder. Each episode includes characters voiced by Lou Diamond Phillips, Melissa Rauch, Yvette Nicole Brown, Lauren “Lolo” Spencer, Tatiana Lee and Ali Stroker.
First up, “Cleft Hood” introduces a new vehicle character named Castor, who was born with a cleft hood. It was written by Jeremy Shipp, part of the Emmy-winning writing team behind Rapunzel’s Tangled Adventure, and inspired by his own son, Henry, who was born with a cleft lip and palate.
“All That Jazzy” focuses on Spencer’s character Jazzy, who wants to be the star of a dance performance.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and so, too, is a very special birthday for Disney Junior, the Mouse House’s home for content targeting younger children: It’s turning 10.

“Disney Junior has always been about embracing emotional, character-driven storytelling featuring age-appropriate lessons for preschoolers, combined with a touch of Disney magic that the whole family can enjoy together. If your child asks you for a "Sofia the First" DVD, there are some readily available reasons to say "no." Maybe you think the first Disney princess aimed at toddlers is steeped in stereotypes and sends the wrong message to girls. Perhaps you remember there was controversy over whether or not Sofia is Latina. Or, like the father of a boy named Sam, you might just think your kid has too many DVDs.
But what happens when a stranger assumes that the reason you are denying "Sofia the First" to your little boy is because it's a "girl movie" that will make him "funny"? If you are Sam's dad, you respond to that kind of ignorance in a way that puts you in the running for "Father of the Year." On Friday, the following screengrab of Sam's dad telling his story on Facebook shot to the first page of Reddit with that victorious headline.

As is always the case, a TV series about a little princess has proven to be extraordinarily popular with our children, leading to Disney Junior’s Sofia the First being renewed for a second season. Personally, I thought the children’s series could use a little more draw for young lads, maybe toss in a ninja prince or something equally appealing to the male gender. But that would only be a good idea if Sofia the First wanted to completely ignore its target audience and it’s a good thing it didn’t – it’s the number one TV show for kids 2-5. You just can’t beat numbers like that.
Interestingly enough, Sofia the First is, according to the Hollywood Reporter, the top show for both girls and boys in the demographic, as well as in total viewers, particularly in women 18-49. What this means is parents feel comfortable...
