She was working in a cigar factory in Cleveland when she became fascinated by a Wild West show that came to town. The following year, she started traveling the country with the Miller Brothers 101 Ranch Wild West Show, doing stunts on horseback.
She spent three years as a trick rider with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
