Guðmunda Ragnhildur Gísladóttir was born October 7th, 1956 in
Reykjavík, Iceland. Her parents are/were Gísli Jónsson and Erna
Gunnarsdóttir. She has three siblings. Was raised in Kjalarnes (near
Reykjavík). She started piano lessons at a young age and, at the age of
17, she started learning to become a music teacher at the music school
of Iceland. In 1976, she fronted a band called "lummurnar" and, after
that, her career started. She was the founder of the first Icelandic
girl rock band, "Grýlurnar", and, when they ended, she joined Iceland's
most popular band at that time, "Stuðmenn", in 1984. She quit the band
in 2005, and went to university. She has two daughters, Erna (born in
1977) and Bryndís (born in 1987). They are both involved with music.
Bryndís is the daughter of
Jakob Magnússon (Jakob Frímann
Magnússon), musician. Ragnhildur and Jakob divorced around 2000.
