- François Glorieux, born in Kortrijk, Flanders (Belgium) August 27 1932, is a Belgian pianist, composer, conductor, and teacher. He studied at the Royal Cons, in Ghent (graduated, 1953), then toured as a pianist. He taught chamber music at the Royal Cons, in Ghent, and was head of the summer courses in piano at the Royal Cons, in Antwerp. He became especially successful in presenting entertaining improvisational recitals in 5 languages; also conducted his own 25- member orchestra from 1979. His compositions run the gamut from serious works to popular scores and arrangements, the last including pieces by Stan Kenton and Michael Jackson. - He conducts many orchestras from around the world, such as Stan Kenton Band in the US, the Locke Brass Consort of London, the National Symphony Orchestra of the United Kingdom, the BBC Radio Orchestra, the New Tokyo Symphony, the Kiev Chamber Orchestra ( Ukraine) and the Mainzer Kammerorchester (Germany). As a piano soloist he collaborated with, among others, the Orchestra of Rias Berlin, Münchner Rundfunkorchester, Hamburger Symphoniker, Orchester Colonne (Paris) and Orchester de la Suisse Romande (Geneva).
- His "Movements" was composed in 1962 for the Ballet of the XXth Century, commissioned by Maurice Béjart.
- Since 1977 he has taught chamber music at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. He is also a visiting professor at Yale University in the United States and director of the International Piano Master Class in Antwerp.
