Months after his life was suddenly cut short, Emmy winner Leslie Jordan has a chance to receive more TV academy love for his final small screen performance as Phil on Fox’s “Call Me Kat.” If he does land in this year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actor lineup, he will join a group of 12 other comedy or drama series regulars who posthumously achieved Emmy recognition. If he scores his second victory, he will make history as the first deceased male actor to win an Emmy for a continuing program.

The cat cafe is closing its doors.
Fox has canceled its comedy Call Me Kat, starring The Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik, after three seasons. The news comes a day after the show’s season (now series) finale aired on the network.
Call Me Kat stars Bialik as a woman who leaves her job as a college professor to open a cat cafe. The series is based on the BBC comedy Miranda, starring and created by Miranda Hart. The show was a co-production between Warner Bros. TV, BBC Studios America and Fox Entertainment, along with That’s Wonderful Productions — headed by Bialik’s Big Bang co-star Jim Parsons — and Bialik’s Sad Clown Productions.
The comedy joins The Resident and 911 in leaving the network after this season, though the latter is moving to ABC for its seventh season. Both dramas come from Disney’s 20th Television, so 911 will become an...

Country superstar Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance on Fox’s Mayim Bialik comedy Call Me Kat last night to honor the show’s late co-star Leslie Jordan.
Parton, a friend of Jordan’s who had made a guest appearance on the comedian’s 2021 album Company’s Comin’, spoke directly to Jordan in a pre-taped message that introduced a memorial montage of some of his moments on the sitcom.
“I know usually at a memorial people talk about somebody,” Parton said after singing a bit of the song “Where the Soul Never Dies” that she’d recorded with Jordan. “Well, I’m going to talk to you, because there is that place on the other side and I’m certainly going to see you there, little brother. You left a lot of people here with a lot of precious, precious memories. Everybody loved you, but I doubt many of them...

Country music legend Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance on Thursday’s (January 5) winter premiere of Fox‘s Call Me Kat, paying tribute to her good friend Leslie Jordan. The emotional episode gave a heartfelt send-off to Jordan’s character, Phil, the beloved baker who worked at Kat’s (Mayim Bialik) cafe. The episode saw Jordan’s former Cool Kids castmate Vicki Lawrence play Phil’s mother, Lurlene, who filled in for her son at the cafe while he was vacationing in Tahiti with his new boyfriend, Jalen (John Griffin). Later in the episode, it was revealed that Phil and Jalen would be staying in Tahiti, with plans to get married and open a bakery of their own. It wasn’t just the characters saying goodbye, though, as Parton popped up in a surprise video message at the end of the episode. After singing a small part of the track “Where the Soul Never Dies,...

Leslie Jordan, who passed away in October at age 67, received a posthumous Critics Choice Award nomination on the morning of December 6 for his role on the Fox “Call Me Kat.” The beloved actor won an Emmy Award for “Will & Grace” in 2006, but this marks his first (and last) Critics Choice citation for playing Phil, a newly single gay man who works as a baker at the cafe run by the titular Kat (Mayim Bialik). These kudos are voted on by members of the Broadcast Television Journalists Association (Btja).
Jordan’s co-nominees in the Critics Choice category of Best Comedy Supporting Actor are Brandon Scott Jones (“Ghosts”), James Marsden (“Dead to Me”), Chris Perfetti (“Abbott Elementary”), Tyler James Williams (“Abbott Elementary”) and Henry Winkler (“Barry”). This is the second TV bid for Jones and the third for Winkler (he won in 2019), while Marsden is a previous winner on the film...
