Twice won Broadway's Tony Award as Best Director (Play): in 1995 for a
revival of "The Heiress" and then, in the next year, 1996, for a
revival of
Edward Albee's"A Delicate Balance." He had also been nominated in
the same category in 1994 for a revival of
Robert E. Sherwood's "Abe Lincoln in
Illinois."
