Andrew takes a nerdy dive into the pop culture real and fictional that's made its way into the world of Red Dwarf...
Creating culture within science-fiction can be tricky. It’s potentially alienating, with the audience required to understand allusions without a reference point. Then again, if you throw in too many contemporary references, the future starts to look dated pretty quickly. Red Dwarf has walked that fine line, building its own stars and entertainment but chucking in the familiar, just to keep the world grounded. We take a look at humanity’s future culture as seen through the eyes of Lister, Rimmer, Cat, Kryten and Holly.

The Yeti attack at Covent Garden in recently recovered Doctor Who episode, The Web Of Fear, is a masterwork. Here's why...
The Web Of Fear was commissioned after a positive response to The Abominable Snowmen by then Story Editor (soon-to-be Producer) Peter Bryant, with the intention that it would close out Doctor Who’s fifth season. Rewrites for Fury From The Deep resulted in it becoming the penultimate story (one of many variables that resulted in Nicholas Courtney playing the role of Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart). Previously available as an audio soundtrack narrated by Fraser Hines, the film of The Web Of Fear was returned to the BBC archives in 2013.
I first experienced The Web Of Fear as a Target Novelisation at some point in the Nineties (I can’t remember if it was in Uddingston Library – so many Targets, so many Asterix books – or my primary school’s...

John Sullivan was reportedly working on a further special episode of Only Fools and Horses before his death. Sir David Jason - who played Derek 'Del Boy' Trotter in the longrunning BBC comedy - revealed that Sullivan wanted to bring back the show for at least one more episode before his death in April last year. The actor stated that the episode would have revolved around Del Boy's 65th birthday, and that he and the rest of the cast would have been interested in a comeback. "About four years ago, perhaps less, I got a message from John Sullivan and Gareth Gwenlan, who was the producer,' Jason told BBC Radio 4's Media Show. "John wanted to do another Christmas special with perhaps an episode or so afterwards. (more)...
