What do Salvador Dalí and "Thief: The Dark Project" have in common? For one, they're both name-dropped -- no, name-suplexed -- as inspirations for "Tangiers," an abstract, surrealist stealth game by neophyte indie designers Alex Harvey and Michael Wright.
Harvey and Wright's two-man team is officially known as "Andalusian." If you took freshman-year Film Studies 101 or just really love that one Pixies song, you might catch the reference to Un Chien Andalou, Dalí's nonsensical 1929 silent movie. The very first scene is a graphic depiction of a woman's eye being sliced open by a razor, which should clue you in on the territory Andalusian wants to cover in "Tangiers": dark, unnerving, fragmentary, and twisted.
"Tangiers" is an sandbox game about stealth and manipulation. You play as some lanky, scuttling, spider-humanoid tasked with locating, hunting, and eliminating five different people. The catch: it's not clear which five people are marked,...

Danny Boyle's supposedly dangerous playlist is nothing of the sort. It just proves we're a nation of stick-in-the-muds and conformists
So the Olympics opening ceremony isn't just going to be Teletubbies Land with sheep? Albion will rise, for the Queen will spontaneously combust when she hears God Save the Queen by the Sex Pistols. A living flame will light the way. Her maj may have been lulled into submission by Gary Barlow and entertained by man of the people Jimmy Carr, but the leaked playlist planned by Danny Boyle is dangerous, man.
There is Relax by Frankie. Sex! There is a bit of Underworld. Drugs – well, lager. There is some Oasis. Rock'n'roll. There is some Handel and stodgy old Clash. For the laydeez there is some Mia and Sugababes. And, of course, some Mike Oldfield and that other famous Brit, Michael Jackson.
It's all very jolly and an essentially British playlist.

In the first half of the 20th century, futuristic fiction often focused on shining cities with amazing spires and flying cars but, in this uncertain and faithless age, the utopian dream has faded away.
Instead we have dystopian nightmares of armageddon and, often, a scorched earth dominated by disease, aliens, machines, vampires, zombies or other horrors.
Tapping into this trope of man's fight for survival in a razed world is the upcoming British indie thriller Island, directed by London-born filmmaker Rehan Malik and co-written by Malik and Leon Hady.
Billed as a modern-day Lord of the Flies, it is set during a nuclear disaster. A group of students are trapped in a school and while some desire to build a new society, others attempt to subvert the situation for their own purposes.
From studio European Broadcast Ltd, this film-noir thriller, now in post-production, stars a young British cast including Donald Bentley,...
