- Veteran stuntman Yakima Canutt often doubled Hatton in his westerns, and didn't think much of his "cowboy" abilities. In his autobiography, Canutt said, "There were only three things Dick Hatton was afraid of--horses, guns and the outdoors".
- Stalwart silent screen western actor. He was killed in a car accident soon after the coming of sound. Many of his films were produced by relatively obscure companies, as a result of which few of them have survived.
- Founded Prairie Productions.
- Appeared in several film with Vitagraph Studios in the 1910s, most of them being uncredited roles.
