- American animator, noted for his work on Donald Duck and Woody Woodpecker cartoons in the 1940's. Hawkins published his first cartoon in the Los Angeles Times at the age of 14. He began with Walter Lantz and enjoyed tenure at most of the animation studios in Hollywood at one time or other, somehow managing to combine great speed with perfectionism in his drawings. He was latterly involved in commercial animation at John Sutherland and Storyboard (where he animated Maypo commercials). Forced to retire due to Alzheimer's disease.
