“Reservation Dogs” might be ending this season, but the FX series is leaving everything on the field, both in terms of storytelling and technical ambition. Episode 3, “Deer Lady,” is a simple enough vehicle (pun only somewhat intended) for the recurring character played by Kaniehtiio Horn, who we’ve seen cruising the Oklahoma byways on the hunt for bad men. But Sterlin Harjo and his team take the opportunity to do more than provide an origin story for Deer Lady, her fabulously free hair, and the set of antlers she wields. It folds her into a piece of American history and uses a smart blend of sound and score to make us feel as disoriented and terrified as the girl (Georgeanne Growingthunder) who would become Deer Lady.

On August 2, 2023, FX premiered the third and final season of “Reservation Dogs,” scoring a perfect 100% freshness rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics consensus reads, “Bowing out while still having plenty of creativity to spare, ‘Reservation Dogs” final season sidesteps feeling premature by satisfying on every level.” The series created by Sterlin Harjo and Taika Waititi centers on four Native American teenagers growing up on a reservation in eastern Oklahoma. The ensemble cast is led by D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Lane Factor and Paulina Alexis.
The critically acclaimed comedy has been continuously snubbed by the Emmys, earning just a single bid for sound editing this year. Other awards groups have been more favorable, including the Critics Choice Awards, which nominated Woon-a-Tai for Best Comedy Actor, Jacobs for Best Comedy Actress and Alexis for Best Comedy Supporting Actress in addition to the show’s 2023 nomination for Best Comedy Series. “It’s a good question because most people, I would say even my parents probably have no idea what I really do,” jokes Emmy-nominated supervising sound editor Patrick Hogan about the primary responsibilities of a sound editor and the differences between his team and the sound editing team on a show like “Cobra Kai.”
For our recent webchat Hogan declares, “It takes a lot of people to make a movie or show and even on a TV show like this,” he explains, adding that “you’re talking probably 150 people between production and post-production who work on the show. So, while the sound department is one small group of those people, it’s still many people working towards a common goal. There’s different positions and different responsibilities that different people have and in order to get the final product and reinforce the vision and the story that the producers want to tell.

Minneapolis — A New Jersey woman widely known as "the tanning mom" was sent to a temporary detox facility after allegedly being intoxicated at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan says airport police were called to the Delta ticket counter Thursday because of an intoxicated woman.
Hogan says Patricia Krentcil wasn't arrested but was taken to a detox facility to sober up. He didn't know if or when she had been released. She couldn't be reached at her home number Saturday.
Krentcil was accused of child endangerment in April 2012 for allegedly taking her then 5-year-old daughter into a tanning booth. A grand jury declined to indict her.
Hogan says intoxicated travelers go to detox if they can't care for themselves or be released into another's custody.
