Used to work for Columbia Pictures. When
Robert Rodriguez signed with the studio
to distribute his first film,
El Mariachi (1992), he met Huang. The two became
friends and Huang shared some of his would-be movie stories with
Rodriguez, who - as he recalls in his memoir, "Rebel Without a Crew" -
told him to simply "go out and make a movie." This led to Huang
resigning from his job and setting out to make
Swimming with Sharks (1994).
