The third season of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer is officially in production!
“While Season 3 of The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly’s novel The Gods of Guilt, we decided that a fun (and poignant) way to come into the season would be via a flashback sequence that gave us some insight into how Mickey Haller became Mickey Haller — not just the brilliant criminal defense lawyer but the husband, the father, and the man that he would come to be,” co-showrunners and executive producers Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez told Deadline, teasing the beginning of season 3 with some photos (which you can see over at Deadline).

Well, this isn't the news we wanted to report on this fine Tuesday morning.
On the heels of the excellent renewal/cancel news that The Lincoln Lawyer had been renewed for Season 3, we have some bad news.
An original star is not returning as a series regular.
Neve Campbell, who plays Mickey's ex-wife Maggie, will not be back as a regular.
The Hollywood Reporter shared the news of Campbell's exit but noted that the actress could return in future seasons.
The good news?
The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 seemingly foreshadowed the exit with Maggie accepting a job out of town.
Netflix confirmed Wednesday that the hit legal drama would return and focus on the fifth book in the Lincoln Lawyer series by Michael Connelly, The Gods of Guilt.

This article contains spoilers for The Lincoln Lawyer seasons 1 and 2.
It is a tumultuous time in Hollywood currently. The Writer’s Guild of America has now surpassed 100 days of strike action, and SAG-AFTRA is showing solidarity right beside them. Many television and film productions have been put on hiatus, which begs the question – has The Lincoln Lawyer even been renewed at this juncture?
Ted Humphrey, showrunner for the Netflix hit, confirmed that he and his writing team had already been working on a season 3 before the WGA began their strike action. An official renewal has not been announced, and there may be a delay in production for obvious reasons, but chances still look good we’ll see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) and his team again. And thanks to the precedent set by the Mickey Haller book series, we have a good idea of what to expect from season 3.

The Lincoln Lawyer fans were dismayed to see Neve Campbell’s character, Maggie McPherson, in a decreased role in season 2 of Netflix’s legal thriller. Some viewers worried that the iconic scream queen was planning an exit from the show completely. An exit would force the storyline to deviate significantly from its source material. While we don’t know what the future holds for the series just yet, it looks like Campbell might be on screen more often in season 3 if it does happen. So, why did she step away in season 2?
Why wasn’t Neve Campbell in much of season 2 of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’?
Campbell’s reduced screen time on season 2 of The Lincoln Lawyer had nothing to do with the character or plans to write her out. It would be nearly impossible to do so. Since The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly’s books about Mickey Haller.

Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) might not be working out of his car anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s no longer the Lincoln Lawyer on the Netflix series based on Michael Connelly’s books. Plus, that could change if there is a third season (the streaming service has yet to renew the drama). “It is something that we’ll see him going back to,” The Lincoln Lawyer co-showrunner Ted Humphrey tells TV Insider. “To me, he’s still the Lincoln Lawyer because he spends so much time in the Lincoln, and we shoot so much in it.” Moving Mickey into an office came about for a simple “cinematic” reason: This is a television show. “You need to have a place to put scenes and the inside of that car can get pretty claustrophobic after a while,” Humphrey explains. “Also you need a place to set scenes with the other...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for all of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 Part 2.] As with the first season of the Netflix series based on Michael Connelly‘s books, The Lincoln Lawyer doesn’t exactly stick to what was on those pages in Season 2. The second half dropped on August 3, and Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) does get a not guilty verdict for Lisa (Lana Parrilla) in court, only to realize, after they spend the night together, that he hasn’t really met her ex-husband and someone should really check what’s buried in her garden. But the danger’s not quite over for Mickey yet, with a car seemingly trying to run him over near the end. Here, co-showrunner Ted Humphrey breaks down the Season 2 finale and discusses where it leaves everyone. Like with the first season, there are ...

Netflix has dropped the trailer for the second half of The Lincoln Lawyer and…no surprise, Mickey Haller survives that brutal beating.
But will he win the case involving the gorgeous restaurateur played by Lana Parrilla?
In a departure from the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer, Netflix dropped five episodes from the second season this month, with plans to stream the remaining five on Aug. 3. Season 2 is based on Michael Connelly’s fourth book in the Lincoln Lawyer series called “The Fifth Witness.”
I thought it was a good idea,” Co-showrunner/co-creator Ted Humphrey told Deadline about splitting up the second season. Dailyn Rodriguez is the other showrunner. “I guess time will tell if that was right or not, though I don’t know why it wouldn’t be right. In a departure from the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer, Netflix just dropped five episodes of the drama that’s based on the bestselling novels by Michael Connelly, with plans to stream the remaining five on Aug. 3.
Here, co-showrunner and co-creator Ted Humphrey talks about the relative ease at which they were able to split up season 2 — which is based on Connelly’s fourth book in the Lincoln Lawyer series called “The Fifth Witness.” He also talks about the mixed blessing of having his popular series stream during “a state of crisis” in Hollywood.
Deadline Just to refresh everyone’s memory, the Mickey Haller character from Michael Connelly’s books is of Latin heritage, correct? So Matthew McConaughey’s Mick was wrong in the 2011 movie of the same name?

When the Writers Guild of America announced their 2023 nominations, the Episodic Drama category featured installments from juggernaut contenders “Better Call Saul” and “Ozark” and breakout series “Bad Sisters” and “Severance.” It also featured one surprise — and absolutely inspired — entry: the series finale of Paramount+’s “The Good Fight.” Written by series co-creators Michelle King and Robert King, the episode is the first of this critically-acclaimed legal drama and political satire to earn a nomination from the guild. Could that unexpected bid signal another surprise nomination at the upcoming Emmy Awards?
Both the WGA and the Emmys have certainly shown their appreciation for the Kings before for “The Good Wife,” the predecessor series to “The Good Fight.” At the Emmys, they earned their first Drama Writing nomination for the pilot back in 2010 and a bookend bid for the series finale “End” in 2016. This The Lincoln Lawyer review is spoiler free and is based off of the first full season.
The opening episode of The Lincoln Lawyer sets the tone for the series right away. We see Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), fresh out of a stint in rehab, getting hounded by his assistant/ex-wife Lorna (Becki Newton) to get down to the courthouse because he has a big meeting with Mary Holder (LisaGay Hamilton), the senior judge of Los Angeles County. He’s not prepared for the meeting, doesn’t know what it’s about, but he takes it because he has no other choice and Mickey Haller is smart enough and quick enough to land on his feet no matter what gets thrown at him.
Haller is charming, clever, and a brilliant defense attorney. In other words, he’s the perfect centerpiece for a David E. Kelley-developed hour-long series. Originally a project a CBS,...

The ethics of being a defense attorney aren’t so black and white. So, how does “The Lincoln Lawyer” grapple with defending someone he knows is guilty?
The TV series adaptation of the books by superstar crime fiction author Michael Connelly follows Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as lawyer Mickey Haller, who runs his practice out of a vintage Lincoln Town Car (hence the title).
In this clip from the upcoming Netflix series, exclusive to TheWrap, Garcia-Rulfo’s Haller explains to his daughter Hayley (Krista Warner) that he truly believes everyone deserves the right to a fair trial.
“Everyone deserves a defense, Hayley,” he says.
Like father like daughter, she is quick to push back on that, asking him: “Where do you draw the line? Do you have a line?”
And he does. For example, he tells her, he won’t represent anyone who has hurt a child. But the answer isn’t...

Crime novelist Michael Connelly, who brought us LAPD detective Harry Bosch, among other creations, knows how to get some mileage out of a gripping yarn. That’s the case in this adaptation of his book (previously made into a movie with Matthew McConaughey) about troubled idealistic defense lawyer Mickey Haller. Following a period of lying low dealing with an OxyContin addiction (the origins of which play out all season), Haller unexpectedly inherits the busy practice of a lawyer friend — murdered in the opening moments of this series. “Mickey really has this deep-seated sense of right and wrong, and the first season is very much a redemption story,” says The Lincoln Lawyer executive producer Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife). Working out of his Lincoln (hence the title), Haller’s first big case couldn’t be more high-profile: the coming murder trial of accused tech mogul Trevor Elliott (Christopher Gorham). Helping drive...

1. “Stranger Things” Season 4, Volume 1 (available May 27)
Best Reason to Watch: Summer is the season for blockbusters, and “Stranger Things” is TV’s biggest blockbuster — at least, until HBO’s “House of the Dragon” and Amazon Prime’s “Lord of the Rings” premiere at summer’s end. Even with those gargantuan franchises in the offing, the Duffer Brothers aren’t giving up the title of TV’s top popcorn program without a fight. Season 4 is being split into two volumes, with four or five episodes premiering May 27 and the remaining entries debuting July 1. Moreover, the creators have promised Season 4 is nearly twice the length of past seasons, featuring thousands of VFX shots spread across more than 800 pages of scripts. No wonder reports have claimed Season 4 cost upwards of 270 million to produce. That’s more than the rumored budget for Marvel’s latest “Doctor Strange,” which officially kicks off the summer movie season,...
