- On a dare, Myra J. took to the stage in Los Angeles telling jokes over twenty years ago. After much encouragement from fellow comic and friend, Robin Harris, Myra left behind a career in the social services and decided to make a career as a stand up comedienne and never looked back. Making her mark in comedy led to other fields of entertainment such as television warm-up, writing, acting and radio.
Currently hitting the airwaves as the "Poster child for the Single Mom" on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, Myra still performs stand up and makes appearances around the country. Shortly afterwards, she left for Los Angeles and worked for many years in social services. When she watched her first comedy show at The Comedy Store, Myra was on the same stage two days later telling jokes.
Myra's decision to be a comedienne led to other paths in entertainment. A big break came when she was offered the job to for radio icon "The Fly Jock" Tom Joyner and perform on his weekly countdown show "On The Move." When he created the syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, Myra was invited to come on board as the Poster Child for Single Moms. She co-created and was one of the writers of the hit radio soap opera, "It's Your World" featured daily on the TJMS.
Myra J.'s versatile talents soon had her writing and acting for sitcoms, including "Martin", "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper". She has also written for "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns". Her gift as a writer was acknowledged as a 2011 NAACP Image Awards Nominee for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series and a 2010 Humanitas Award Finalist in the "Writing and Directing - 30 Minute Category".
Myra has also enjoyed doing voiceover work. You may have heard her in "Martin", "The Proud Family, or the desperate Dorothea in the cult classic "Bebe's Kids", as well as several commercials.
Myra has traveled across the country hosting a variety of events, including fundraisers for HBCUs, social organizations and women's empowerment seminars such as The Pantene Total You Tour.
