- Played the roles of Sancho Panza and Cervantes' manservant in the original Broadway stage production of "Man of La Mancha".
- Together with most of the original cast, he played his original stage roles in the limited-run 1972 Broadway return engagement of "Man of La Mancha". This revival was staged only months before the much (and some would say, unfairly) maligned film version was released. James Coco played the roles of Sancho Panza and the manservant in the film.
- Played Mr. Foreman in the original Broadway production of Carl Reiner's "Enter Laughing", in 1963.
