After many setbacks, the remake of the 80s Bollywood classic Shaukeen starring Akshay Kumar and Lisa Haydon, finally went on floor few weeks back and now the makers have decided to re-title the film. While initially they decided to retain the original title, now they believe that it should be titled as The Shaukeens.
Producer Murad Khetani stated that the title change adds the contemporary touch. Though it is an official remake, according to Murad, it is only the essence of the previous film that has been maintained. However, the story and the characters have undergone some changes in order to make it relevant to modern times. They are also planning to add some more humour, colour, more glamour and edginess in order to present it as a complete package. They feel that the current title adds to the coolness quotient and will be able to attract the youth audience too.

Co-producer Murad Khetani stated that they had a long outdoor schedule in Mauritius which starts from April 20, and Nargis had to give away the dates from April 20-27 for her Hollywood project. Though they obliged, the shoot of her Hollywood film was later extended for a couple of days more and the actress ultimately had to give Shaukeen remake a skip since the delay would have affected the jam packed shoot schedule of actors like Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Piyush Mishra. Nargis too expressed her unhappiness over quitting the remake of this cult as she too was excited to work with a director like Abhishek Sharma. In Bollywood, while on one hand, remakes are soon becoming the call of the day, on the other, there are many projects that get fizzled out due to various reasons. Call it destiny, but the remake of Shaukeen (that's to be produced by Akshay Kumar) did not suffer any such fate, despite the walking out of Rumi Jaffrey, who was going to direct the same. The latest update is that Abhishek Sharma (the man who made Tere Bin Laden) has stepped into the director's shoes of this film. When asked about the film, Rumi said that there is no bad blood between Akshay Kumar and him and that he is sure that Abhishek will do a commendable job. When asked Rumi about the reason to quit the film, he said that the film was supposed to start in 2013, but got delayed and that he has another commitment in 2014.

Even before the remake of Basu Chatterjee's 1982 film Shaukeen could go on floor, the film seems to have hit rock bottom. Rumi Jaffrey, who was supposed to direct the film, has opted out of it.
Apparently, the reason for the sudden exit is said to be date clashes. Rumi, who was pretty kicked about the project revealed that the film got delayed to January instead of October and that, he had other commitments to fulfill. The writer-director also expressed his unhappiness over his exit from the remake and hopes that despite his absence, the film proves successful.
While the original starred Mithun Chakraborty and Rati Agnihotri, this one will have Akshay Kumar and Nargis Fakri reprising their roles.

Shaukeen, the 1980 Basu Chatterjee comic film about three old men lusting after a girl next-door, is all set to be remade by Rumi Jaffery. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar has been roped in to play the character of Mithun Chakraborty. While the female lead originally played by Rati Agnihotri will be essayed by Nargis Fakhri.
Though in the original, Mithun's part was a small role, the remake will apparently change the part to fit in Akshay. Further reports suggest that Akshay has not charged his usual fee for this film as it is not a full length role, but he will have a stake in the film.
While on the other hand, as reported earlier by Bollywood Hungama, the three older actor's roles have gone to Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Paresh Rawal.

That 2012 began with an overwrought hyper-melodramatic brutal and tumultuous remake of Agneepath and ended with Yash Chopra’s muted mellow all-heart-no-malice ode to romance Jab Tak Hai Jaan seems indicative of the direction that Bollywood seems headed for. The journey, as we can see, is unpredictable and largely exciting. Looking back, some films of 2012 that fetched hype-star ratings seem bloated and over-eager to please either critics or the masses, but never both. Luckily the films that were truly meritorious did get a place under the swoon.

It was the year before Mrs India Gandhi was assassinated. The nation was not in the best of moods. There were raised voices and frayed tempers prevalent across the nation as corruption and intolerance reached an all-time high. Given the milieu Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron(Jbdy) chose to laugh away the bruise…There is a sharp zaniness about Jbdy which serves as a scathing antidote to the growing sense of collective dismay that the nation faced as extremism and inflation hit the nation hurling it towards damnation.
Many regard Jbdy as the funniest Hindi film ever made. I am not too sure. I sense of deep somberness behind the giggles and guffaws. The plot about two out-of-work photographers named, hold your legal notices, Vinod Chopra(Naseruddin Shah) and Sudhir Mishra(Ravi Baswani) has episodes of...

It's finally happening. A remake of the 1975 Hrishikesh Mukherjee comedy Chupke Chupke. Long in the pipeline the eagerly-awaited remake gets a new lease of life and a completely new interpretation. Dhawan's old favourite writer Rumi Jaffrey says, "That Chupke Chupke was 36 years ago. Times have changed. In those days confusions were created among the characters over the telephone line because people were shouting to make themselves heard over crackling trunk-call lines. Times have changed. It's the era of instant communication and the new Chupke Chupke will reflect that." While the cast for the new Chupke Chupke is yet to be decided, we hear the role of the heroine's suspicious brother-in-law, played with such magnificent comicality by Om Prakash in the original film, is likely to go to Rishi Kapoor. While credit must be given to writer-director Rumy Jaffery for focusing on the issue of corruption noble intentions don’t necessarily make a notable work of art. Certainly Gali Gali Chor Hai(Ggch) must have sounded amusing and topical on paper. It is a savagely stinging satire on the harassment of the average law-abiding middleclass man, played with arresting earnestness by Akshaye Khanna, in the hands of various touts, middlemen, law enforcers, goons and politicians all of whom infest the tranquil city of Bhopal with the destructive determination of termites eating into a ‘system’ that has long ceased to be if any consequence , moral or ethical.
While the script has some sparkling vignettes and scenes taken from the portrait of a common man trapped in the wheels of a fluctuating fortune, the treatment of the theme of corruption is staid,...

New Delhi, Jan 24: After spending over three decades in the film industry and working in more than 60 films, actor Annu Kapoor feels he could have been wiser, and done better for himself.
Asked if there's anything he would like to ask himself at this stage of life, he said: "Why have I been such an idiot?"
"I have asked this question to myself because understanding and time is a part of very few lucky lives. When one has time, then the understanding is not there, and when you have the understanding then you don't have the time," he added.
Annu, who will soon be seen in Rumi Jaffery's "Gali Gali Chor Hai", admits he lives.
