Following through on a warning earlier this month, Authentic Brands Group has revoked Sports Illustrated‘s license to publish due to a missed payment.
As a result of the move, the entire staff of the 70-year-old print and online publication was notified on Friday that their jobs were being eliminated.
“We appreciate the work and efforts of everyone who has contributed to the Si brand and business,” Si operator The Arena Group wrote in a memo to employees that prompted outrage and lamentation on social media.

Season one of Yellowstone ended with Dan Jenkins being confronted by Casey Dutton, the youngest son of the patriarch John Dutton, for his involvement in a real estate merger with Thomas Rainwater, who wanted to build a casino right next to the Yellowstone Dutton ranch. Monica and Casey separate as he decides to work and live on the ranch with his father. She did not want him to turn into his father, who was a ruthless landowner. John Dutton worries about his legacy; having his youngest son around serves the purpose and fills the void left by Jamie, his other son. Beth, on the other hand, still proved to be the most loyal child in the family.
Spoilers Ahead
Was John Dutton Sick?
John Dutton, as established in season one of the show, is the owner of the Yellowstone Ranch, which has been passed down to him by his family.

It's easy to forget that a lot of people have died during the five-and-a-half seasons of "Yellowstone." Most character deaths are reserved for the villains who dare to go toe-to-toe with the Dutton family. Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston) made the mistake of trying to build a casino near the ranch only to get dispatched by the Beck brothers, and Roarke Morris (Josh Holloway) dies horribly after Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) hurls a rattlesnake in his face. That's not exactly the ideal cowboy death that Emmet Walsh (Buck Taylor) receives leading up to the mid-series finale of season five.
It's no wonder, then, that the performers playing the lead characters were wondering how long they would last on Paramount Network's smash hit series. Granted, the actors on "Yellowstone" had a little more job security than every single cast member of "The Walking Dead," but not much.
Arguably, the ungovernable Beth...

Dick Butkus, the ferocious Chicago Bears middle linebacker who brought his reputation as an NFL barbarian to Hollywood for Miller Lite commercials, sitcoms and films, has died. He was 80.
A member of the Screen Actors Guild for more than four decades, Butkus died peacefully in his sleep overnight at his home in Malibu, his family announced Thursday.
From 1987-89, Butkus had a recurring role as cafe owner Ed Klawicki on My Two Dads, an NBC sitcom about two single men (Paul Reiser, Greg Evigan) raising a teenage daughter (Staci Keanan).
Butkus joined the NBC Saturday morning series Hang Time in 1998 as old-school Deering High Tornados basketball coach Mike Katowinski, taking over for former NBA star Reggie Theus, and he worked on that show for its final three seasons.
Earlier, Butkus was a regular on two short-lived, light-hearted network dramas: ABC’s Blue Thunder, which featured Dana Carvey and a gadget-filled helicopter,...

The first episode of “Yellowstone” made its broadcast debut on CBS Sunday night with only minor cuts. The network had the hit series in its hip pocket, which has run for five seasons, as a handy solution to fill in for shows that have been put on hold due to the ongoing dual Hollywood strikes.
The Taylor Sheridan-created drama, which launched a whole western franchise for Paramount, had free rein on streaming and cable to include swearing and nudity. Those were both trimmed for network sensibilities.
The trademark violence, however, remained. That includes series star Kevin Costner putting a bullet through the head of his severely injured horse to end its suffering in the first few minutes of the episode.
A CBS insider did not comment on specific edits, but did tell TheWrap, “We are preserving the integrity of the original episodes with minor edits to meet our CBS Broadcast Standards.

In dozens of tributes, Dan Jenkins — who died at 90 on March 7th in his birthplace of Fort Worth, Texas — was cited as the most influential and/or the greatest sportswriter, period, of all time. The author of 23 books and untold hundreds of articles and columns was at the outset most noted for his first novel, Semi-Tough (1971), a groundbreaking, raucous deep-dive into the world of pro football that became a celebrated 1977 film starring Burt Reynolds, Kris Kristofferson and Jill Clayburgh.
Jenkins left indelible imprints in journalism, particularly in his nearly 25 years at Sports Illustrated.
