The last time Johnny Brennan picked up a phone to make a prank call, Apple was a decade away from releasing the iPhone. Hell, “texting” was virtually nonexistent. After a nearly 25-year hiatus from recording original material, the comedian and co-creator of The Jerky Boys is making a comeback with a new self-titled record featuring his classic characters.
Brennan’s return was in part inspired by a series of successful live shows over the past few years. The reverence fans showed for the crank call albums, including reciting back even the most obscure details from the recordings, convinced him it was time to dust off voice characters like Frank Rizzo, Sol Rosenberg, and Jack Tors. For years fans showed an appetite for new material. But the 59-year-old Brennan entered the studio again to make one person in particular laugh.

The BBC has published extensive guidelines on how its staff should be conducting themselves on social media amid fears that tweeting could be tarnishing the corporation’s strict code of impartiality.
In an email to staff on Thursday, BBC director general Tim Davie set out the new guidelines, which include a detailed list of online dos and don’ts, after he previously warned that workers and on-screen talent could be fired for breaking the new rules. The guiding principles are as follows:
Always behave professionally, treating others with respect and courtesy at all times Don’t bring the BBC into disrepute If your work requires you to maintain your impartiality, don’t express a personal opinion on matters of public policy, politics, or controversial subjects Don’t criticize your colleagues in public. Respect the privacy of the workplace and the confidentiality of internal announcements

The BBC has announced plans to layoff 450 employees in its news division, with a number of flagship shows and services being scaled back in a bid to save £80M ($104M) by March 2022.
The BBC has already acknowledged plans to axe BBC Two news brand The Victoria Derbyshire Show, but staff were today briefed on the full cost-saving proposals by Fran Unsworth, the head of news and current affairs. The 450 job cuts represent 7.5% of BBC News’ 6,000-strong workforce.
Under the plans, the BBC is going to pool its resources so journalists serve different programs and platforms, including TV, radio and online. The BBC said this was part of an effort to “reduce duplication,” but added that it will result in a reduction in the number of stories the corporation pursues.
It provided some early insight on how this will work in practice. BBC Two’s tentpole current affairs show Newsnight will...

Just when you thought it was safe to answer your cell phone, the Jerky Boys are back. “I just started thinking to myself, ‘You know, people have been asking me for decades,'” Johnny Brennan, the G.O.A.T. of prank callers, tells Rolling Stone of his decision to restart the 1990s comedy outfit after a two-decade hiatus. “It’s been a long, long time. I said to myself, ‘Let me do it.’ Let me put something else out there. My kids are growing up. And I feel there...

We Got This Covered can exclusively report today that Golden Globe-nominated actor Tom Sizemore (Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down) has joined the cast of The Martyr Maker, an upcoming political thriller from Kamal Ahmed.
Not much is known about the project just yet, but Sizemore will co-star alongside Adeel Ahmed (who’s had guest spots on CBS’ Elementary and NBC’s Deception), who plays Zahid, “an American born Muslim who, after struggling with his Islamic roots, explores different aspects of the religion, leading to a deadly calling.”
Sizemore, meanwhile, will play the head of the CIA, though it’s unclear how the two characters will cross paths at this point. Still, it’s an intriguing premise and we’re eager to see how the film develops.

A creative-writing teacher in Laugh Killer Laugh instructs his students to fictionalize their own personal experiences. For sad-sack second-story man Frank Stone (William Forsythe), that means exposing his criminal activity and Mob connections under a pseudonym. For writer-director Kamal Ahmed, it seems to mean trying to wring drops of entertainment from hours spent in writing workshops. It doesn't work out well for either of them. Stone steals, kills, gets belittled by his gangster handlers, and is haunted by the memory of childhood abuse (Tom Sizemore acts it out in flashback, on sleazy cruise control). He also meets lonely Jackie (Bianca Hunter), who clumsily tries to get him to open up. Conversations meander and fizzle; characters repeat themselves, speaking in banalities and cl...

All due respect to "Mad TV" and "Dirty Work" fans, but for this writer Artie Lange's greatest performance will always be his eight-year run on "The Howard Stern Show." From 2001 to 2009, the gravelly-voiced comedian worked as the King of All Media's brash, no-nonsense, fan-beloved sidekick, a role that brought him his greatest career success ("It was the closest I ever felt to being a rock star") but also brought his personal demons to the fore. His stint on the show came to an abrupt and chilling end in January 2010, when Lange, at that time addicted to heroin, was hospitalized for eight months following a suicide attempt (an episode he has discussed publicly and wrote about in his 2013 memoir "Crash and Burn"). Five years on from his terrifying downward spiral, Lange has rebounded and continues to work, performing standup gigs and making guest appearances on TV shows including "Louie" and Californication.

Tom Sizemore and William Forsythe star in Kamal Ahmed's crime thriller Laugh Killer Laugh. TwitchFilm has an exclusive clip to share with you, which you can watch below, as well as the trailer for further reference. A Jewel thief named Frank Stone is a very deeply disturbed, anti social, milquetoast who finds no joy or humor in anything - until he awakens from a deep coma with a changed personality. I love that the dialogue in this clip sounds like it was taken from the Little Boys Lexicon of Gangster Grammar. You can catch Laugh Killer Laugh in cinemas, and on VOD and iTunes on April 24th. ...

Reporter Sam Rubin confusing Jackson with Laurence Fishburne is an all-too-common mistake that reminds black people of our outsider status
"Did you get a lot of reaction to that Super Bowl commercial?"
"What Super Bowl commercial?"
Sam Rubin, entertainment reporter for the "No 1 morning show in Hollywood", has just made an epic blunder – confusing his guest, actor Samuel L Jackson (who's black), with Laurence Fishburne (he's also black, and also an actor), who really did appear in the commercial.
Jackson's reaction is classic. He tells the squirming reporter: "We may all be black and famous but we don't all look alike." And he doesn't let up: "You're the entertainment reporter for this station and you don't know the difference between me and Laurence Fishburne? There must be a very short line for your job."
What makes the error even worse is that the Super Bowl advert played on Fishburne's high-profile...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
The Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
The Plot: The final chapter of the Harry Potter franchise. Harry, Ron, and Hermione continue in their quest to find and destroy the Dark Lord’s three remaining Horcruxes
The Buzz: We’ve been following these spell-casters around now for just over a decade, and it’s hard to believe that their journey is coming to a close. It’s been interesting to see Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint grow up on screen. I’ve personally found these films to be more and more palatable as the kids have moved on through the years, and have therefore found each...

As you’ll see from the trailer below, this movie has been done on a much smaller scale than Battle: La was but it looks rather a lot more fun! Christmas came early on How I Met Your Mother, or so I thought.
Then, we learned that Lily and Marshall’s good news was a false positive. I guess there is a wrong way to pee on a stick, after all. There was no need to wipe the seat when it came to the overall episode, though. Hands down the best of the season.
I gave it five stars only because I’m not allowed to give it six. It had me saying aloud It’s a Wonderful Life. Lily and Marshall humorously tugged at heart strings as only they can, Barney one-upped Oprah, Robin flipped my lid and Ted blew me away when he smashed his Christmas-themed movie snack and told off everyone.
It was, indeed, the strongest showing by Ted to date. His “check yourself before you Trebek yourself” line was legendary. Not sure how many viewers picked...

A quick review of tonight's "How I Met Your Mother" coming up just as soon as my baby hears The Jerky Boys... In this very up and down "Himym" season(*), "False Positive" was a very big up on which to end 2010. It did those things that we consider distinctly "Himym" - playing with time and perspective, bouncing from story to story - and did so in a way that felt germane to the story and the characters. (In contrast, last week's Future Ted unreliable narrator gag just felt like a gimmick.) (*) In the pile-on for last week's episode, some...

This week will see the release of I'm Still Here, the "documentary" in which Joaquin Phoenix feigns lunacy for a year to the amusement of no one, save for himself and Casey Affleck.
Not unlike most things we here on the internet diatribe about, I've not yet seen the movie. But I do know it is the latest example of a somewhat infuriating genre: the fucking-with-civilians-as-comedy genre.
For about a year, Joaquin Phoenix just screwed with people. He grew his hair out, Grizzly Adams-style, and rapped and was weird. He made people uncomfortable for fun and called it art. So what's the line between art and just being an asshole?
Here's where I'm about to get really unpopular: this is how I feel about Sacha Baron Cohen.
As ideas, I appreciate both Borat and Bruno, less so Ali G, as it spent a lot of time making not-necessarily deserving people feel awkward.
