- From 1979 to 1984 he studies philology at Yeveran University. In 1989 was awarded a Ph.D. from the University.
- Has a Ph.D. in Philology.
- In 1992 he graduated from the Moscow Advance Courses for Film Directors.
- 1992-1993 was a TV correspondent in Armenia and Karabagh.
- Since 1999, he has served as head of Yerevan Studio, which he uses as his production company for his films.
- Serves as an advisor to Armenia;s U.S. born former Prime Minster, Raffi Hovannisian.
- Is listed as a Principal Contributor and a National Expert for the Human Developments Report: Armenia 1995.
