Fred Korematsu was born on January 30, 1919 in Oakland, California, USA. He was married to Katherine Korematsu. He died on March 30, 2005 in Larkspur, California, USA.
Was honored by President Clinton in 1998 with the nation's highest
civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Japanese American who refused to turn himself in for evacuation and
internment in accordance with Executive Order 9066, signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt
following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was arrested and convicted of
a felony for failing to report. The conviction was eventually upheld by
the U.S. Supreme Court.
