Irony Point co-founders Daniel Powell and Alex Bach have specialized in producing hit comedy series such as “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Life With Beth” and “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” but their podcasting-focused sister company Radio Point lets them branch out into new genres and develop proof of concepts for future TV productions.
“Our first podcast was a scripted show called ‘Ellie and the Wave’ with Natalie Morales as the lead,” Bach told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “We could see how it would translate to TV, but it was very much intended to be in audio and developed it for the medium. Since then, we’ve had a number of projects in development where we’re lining up both the podcast release and the TV plan.”

Irony Point might not have wide name recognition just yet, but its projects, which include Netflix’s WGA Award-winning “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” and Marvel’s new scripted “Squirrel Girl” podcast, are attracting the attention of high-profile backers.
The banner, now almost 12 months into a three-year overall deal with Netflix, is headed by co-presidents Alex Bach and Daniel Powell. Their little company also has partnered with Endeavor Content and Broadway Video on recent projects.
Endeavor Content, Irony Point’s collaborator on Hulu dramedy “Life & Beth,” is a “behemoth” operating “in a budget space that we’ve previously not even come close to,” Powell tells Variety. “Being partners with them as the studio really allowed us to have our first experience in what I’d say is a different league, but one that we hope to continue in.”

Jon Stewart once licked a toad on MTV. Now he's a nightly news staple for many liberal flag-burning commie pinkos who live in New York. (Just kidding, plenty of liberal flag-burning commie pinkos who live in other places watch him too.) Last night on "The Daily Show," he scooped himself by revealing an upcoming project with his guest, journalist and filmmaker Maziar Bahari.
Stewart will be putting on his producer's hat for a movie about Bahari's harrowing experience as a detained journalist in Iran.
'Then They Came For Me,' which hit shelves yesterday, details Bahari's 118 days in prison, where he was interrogated ceaselessly after his arrest during the 2009 presidential elections. Strangely enough, one of the pieces of "evidence" presented against him was a clip from "The Daily Show" where he was interviewed by Jason Jones in a segment about America and Iran. This is awesome news! Pajiba is reporting that The Daily Show host/political comedian extraordinaire Jon Stewart has bought the "life rights" of Iranian-Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari to adapt into a feature film, although no writer and director is on-board yet. Didn't think Stewart was into feature films? Neither did I. Apparently he helps run a production company called Busboy Productions that will be producing the project with Rich Korson. It's currently untitled, but will likely tell Bahari's imprisonment and interrogation story from last year that was, apparently, brought on no thanks to a segment on Stewart's show previously. Bahari, a journalist for Newsweek, was arrested last year during the Iranian Election Protests and held by the Iranian government for 118 days. They charged and falsely accused him of being a spy for Mossad, CIA, MI6, and even Newsweek, and was interrogated daily. Apparently he even confessed he was a spy...

This is some bad ass news from the bad ass Hollywood Cog. First, some context: Maziar Bahari is an Iranian Canadian journalist, and a regular reporter for Newsweek. Last year, during the Iranian Election Protests, Bahari was arrested by the Iranian government and charged, falsely, of being a spy for Mossad, CIA, MI6, and even Newsweek. He was imprisoned for 118 days. During his imprisonment, Bahari actually confessed that he was a spy due, in part, to an interview with Jason Jones, a correspondent of "The Daily Show," where Jones was dressed as a spy as a joke. During that imprisonment, he was also interrogated daily and made to wear a blindfold. He was eventually released, but he still faces charges in Iran, and can't return to the country.
After Bahari's release, he gave several interviews, one of which was on "The Daily Show," and Stewart's opening salvo was, "You were imprisoned in Iran.
