Norman Steinberg, screenwriter of the classic Mel Brooks comedy “Blazing Saddles,” has died at the age of 83, his family said through a statement by the Writers Guild of America East.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh law school, Steinberg sought to be a comedy writer after he felt dissatisfied with life as an attorney. That dream was something that he would regularly tell Brooks when he encountered him at the Chock Full ‘O Nuts cafe in Manhattan, which led the famed comedian and producer to tell Steinberg to write a script for the sitcom “Get Smart.”

Ric de Azevedo, a King Family singer who later worked on the production teams of early 1980s series Private Benjamin and Enos but might best be remembered for a surprising, tearful moment during a Vietnam-era Christmas special, died March 14 of an undisclosed illness in Fruit Heights, Utah. Sean Lampkin, best recognized for playing bar owner Nipsey on the hit 1990s sitcom Martin, has died. He was 54. The actor passed away on Wednesday, March 8, in his sleep. The cause of death is not currently known. Lampkin’s death was confirmed by his friend Marsel Watts, who shared the news on her Instagram earlier this month. “Rip Elmore Sean Lampkin. “My friend, my last roommate for 10 years, a father and family man, my brother, skate buddy, business partner, and trainer passed away this morning. Rip Sean Lampkin,” Watts wrote.
