HONG KONG -- Albert Lee has exited as the director of the recently postponed Hong Kong Film Financing Forum 2003 (HAF) to become head of production company Emperor Multimedia Group. Lee replaces CEO Carl Chang, who is leaving EMG at the end of June to concentrate on his own production company, Virus Prods. As part of a transition period, Lee and Chang will work together until the latter's departure. "We already have about six to seven productions in development, some of which we will be producing for EMG," said Chang about his own company. EMG is currently readying big-budget action films that include "The Medallion", starring Jackie Chan, and "The Twins Effect".
HONG KONG -- The outbreak of atypical pneumonia, or severe acute respiratory syndrome, which has left 685 people in Hong Kong infected and claimed 16 lives, has forced organizers of the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum 2003 (HAF) to postpone the event indefinitely. "We had hoped to still go on with the event, but after careful consideration in the light of the latest developments, we have sadly decided to postpone the event. We are still working out a possible date," HAF director Albert Lee said. HAF 2003 was scheduled to begin Monday and run through April 9. More than 450 industry professionals from around the world had registered to attend the three-day event, which was to showcase 24 projects from Asian filmmakers.
HONG KONG -- The Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum 2003 (HAF) will go on despite a recent outbreak of atypical pneumonia that has left 11 people dead and 370 infected in Hong Kong. "We still have a little more than a week to the forum and we have looked at all options. At the moment, we have decided to go ahead as planned," said HAF director Albert Lee. "Admittedly, we can offer no guarantees to participants and we would respect individual decisions (on participation)." At present, more than 457 people have registered for the HAF, which is making a comeback after its inaugural event in 2000. "The response is a lot better than the first year but I believe that some will either drop out or be a no-show." The HAF has selected 24 film projects from around Asia to be showcased at this year's event, which runs April 7-9.
