- When interviewing Alfred Hitchcock in 1973, the reporters scheduled to follow him failed to show. Hitchcock used the 2 hours between interviews to teach him how to storyboard and mark up a screenplay.
- In the 1970s, he became a nightly regular at Sardi's 'Little Bar' where his friends included, John Carradine, Lotte Lenya, Robert Lansing, Kevin McCarthy and playwright Tennessee Williams who tutored him in developing characters for stories, plays and screenplays.
