- In the summer 1986 Jørgen Leth directed a French second unit and shot a large amount of documentary material of the Tour de France for a U.S. feature entitled 'The Yellow Jersey', which was to use the great French cycle race as a living set. The fictional side of the film, based on a novel by Ralf Herne and with draft scripts by Carl Foreman and Colin Welland, was never made, and the documentary footage is embargoed in a bankruptcy case in the USA. Jørgen Leth describes these events in his 1994 book on the Tour de France, 'The Yellow Jersey in the High Mountains'.
