The original Clash of the Titans (1981) was an old-fashioned, star-driven epic featuring up-and-comers (Harry Hamlin), legends (Laurence Olivier), and has-beens (Ursula Andress), as well as stop-motion creatures crafted by the maestro himself, Ray Harryhausen. Clash was no great shakes, but rated as a Greek mythology/history lesson wrapped into a purely entertaining, popcorn and candy-fueled couple of hours. The film was a state-of-the-art affair for its time when it comes to the visual effects, but it feels almost quaint today. And you know exactly what that means: time for Hollywood and its fantasy factory to crank up the digital effects and remake Clash of the Titans (2010) as a lush production with stellar FX, today's biggest stars, and a fresh up-and-comer in the lead.
