Nashville was once famously called a ‘ten year town,’ because that’s about how long an artist has to make it there. Maggie Rose has been at it longer than that. Along the way, she struggled to break through in mainstream country music by submitting herself to the machine: playing CMA Fest in the midday summer sun, visiting countless radio stations, and releasing country singles that went nowhere.
Finally, she had enough. In 2018, with her aptly titled LP Change the Whole Thing, Rose threw up her hands and began making...

Chris Hardwick, of The Nerdist podcast and TV show as well as most things geek-centric, started up a charity event with Peter Levin called .Course of the Force,. a Star Wars-themed relay race where lightsabers replace batons, and all proceeds go to the greater Los Angeles chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. The race kicked off this past Tuesday at George Lucas. famed Skywalker Ranch, and will continue until this coming Tuesday, July 16, where it will end up in San Diego just in time for Comic-Con. You.d think the good cause alone would be enough, but Hardwick and his all-star friends also created a series of promotional videos to promote the event, each one just as cheekily hilarious as the next. The most recent clip (above) features none other than Lando Calrissian himself, Billy Dee Williams, performing karaoke at the Mos Eisley Cantina. As if this wasn.t already...

There are plenty of rewatch podcasts of great TV series available in the vastness of the internet, but this new one has some particularly interesting names and numbers involved. It’s about Star Trek, so our pointy ears are already perked up. It’s from Roddenberry Entertainment, with Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry‘s son Rod Roddenberry executive producing, so it has an extra-authentic pedigree. It’s through Nerdist Industries, now a part of Legendary Entertainment, so the production (and nerdy) values are great.
But the best part of all is that it will be a weekly examination of Every Star Trek episode from Every Star Trek series, one by one. Six series, 30 seasons, 726 episodes. Are you headed to Comic-Con this summer, but not sure how to get to San Diego? A possible solution has just been announced by Chris Hardwick via MTV.
Course of the Force is a Star Wars-themed Olympic-style relay from Santa Monica to San Diego, where runners pass off lightsabers instead of batons. The race will benefit the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and participants will arrive just in time for the Con. Hardwick said,
Initially we wanted to do it from Skywalker Ranch all the way down to San Diego, but we kind of wanted to just get our feet wet the first year.
The event is the concept of Hardwick’s Nerdist Industries business partner, Peter Levin. "His son wakes him up every morning by hitting him on the head with a lightsaber," he said.
Here is what Hardwick and Levin had to say about the event:
"There’s just nothing really to do for fans,...

What’s the one must-have fashion accessory for the wannabe Jedi? A lightsaber, of course—the classiest (and potentially the deadliest) of personal weapons. With a lightsaber in your hand and the Force in your heart, there’s no enemy you cannot conquer.

Craig Newmark gives Fast Company a peek inside the the government's health care system makeover.
Craigslist founder Craig Newmark is optimistic about the health care industry’s 21st-century makeover: mobile electronic health records, remote patient monitoring, and a new corporate culture, friendly to the open-source systems and workplace democracy in which tech innovation thrives.
Years after his low-production classified advertisements websites rocked the media world with its surprising popularity, Newmark has been a highly sought consultant for government agencies eager for their own websites to mimic Craigslist's user-friendliness. "Voices like his make a real difference in creating the culture of transparency, accountability and trust that are essential to implementing the secretary's groundbreaking transformation," the Veteran's Administration's Chief Technology Officer, Peter Levin, told Federal Computer Week.
Inundated with a fresh generation of returning soldiers, the Pentagon and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs saw a need to undergo significant change.

Paramount has picked up the theatrical rights to the science fiction graphic novel Last Man Standing, created by Dan LuVisi.
The novel is the first of a series, written mainly as a prologue, and introduces the bounty hunter Gabriel, who walks the reader through the intricacies of his time transcending futuristic realm and the colorful and sometimes deadly characters that dwell there.
Despite being a new graphic novel, and simply a prologue to the impending series main body, Last Man Standing has become something of an instant sensation after it was reported that it's opening sales at the San Diego Comic Con sold out within hours. The novel is currently out of print, but is soon to be reissued by Heavy Metal publishing. More information regarding obtaining a copy can be found by visiting Heavy Metal.
