- In 1944 he played the leading male role in Zorro's Black Whip (1944), which featured the first female incarnation of the masked avenger. Thirteen years later he was cast in the defining version Zorro (1957) as Zorro/Diego's father, Don Alejandro de la Vega.
- Dashing, black-haired Mexican-born actor who had the attractiveness of a Rudolph Valentino or a Ramon Novarro, but remained in the minor ranks throughout his career, primarily in westerns and action pictures.
