There’s been a process of catching up when it comes to the industry and those with disabilities. Despite one-in-four people having a disability in the United States, disability representation in Hollywood remains abysmal and it’s often reflected in the complete dearth of disabled narratives, actors, and creators making the rounds at awards shows. Just 48 hours ago, the Television Academy and CBS announced that this year’s Emmys would be the most inclusive ever, with a ramp making access to the stage open to all comers.
But you might not have seen it during Sunday’s ceremony. The only discernible access point for anyone with a wheelchair or a mobility impairment was a wide swath of flat ground on the left side of everyone’s television that was flush with the floor. All presenters and winners climbed a series of stairs, either to access the main, pyramid-esque stage or another separate stage.

“You probably think I’m beautiful, but I’m not.”
Super model Tina Cassidy (Kathryn Witt) visits Hollywood plastic surgeon Larry Roberts with a specific list of tiny imperfections that need to be corrected at the request of Reston Industries, a producer of glossy television commercials. Dr. Roberts becomes curious when he realizes that several of his recent patients have had the same type of list.
What follows is a science fiction/police procedural that involves the murder of these same models. The police become suspicious when it is discovered that all the victims were patients of Dr. Roberts
Director/Writer Michael Crichton once again makes predictions based on emerging technologies. His first feature film, Westworld (1973), pioneered the use of digitized imagery to present the point of view of Yul Brynner’s android gunslinger.
In Looker, we have actors being converted to computerized images that may be manipulated through animation.

It’s always fun to peruse the impressive career of writer-director Michael Crichton, whose brilliant, commercially savvy ideas so often hit the mark. He even invented a plausibly credible dinosaur movie. This 1981 thriller may be his least coherent show, with too many screwy ideas and a supporting cast that needed better direction. Yet it has the winning combination of Albert Finney and Susan Dey, and some very original thriller elements.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Every year, it’s a month when Jennifer Sanchez tries to raise awareness about the disease on behalf of her children, Joaquin, 8, and Sofia, 7, both of whom have the disorder.
But this year, it’s Sofia who’s taking over that responsibility, thanks to a video her mom shot of her.
“Little miss, do you have Down syndrome?” Jennifer asks Sofia in the phone-shot video.
“Yes, I do have Down syndrome,” she replies.

WEtv has ordered six one-hour episodes of the unscripted Swv – Sisters With Voices, which will profile the R&B trio’s make-it-or-break-it comeback. It’s set to premiere in early 2014. Cheryl “Coko” Clemons, Leanne “Lelee” Lyons and Tamara “Taj” Johnson were at the top of the music charts after a string of hits in the 1990s, but in-fighting and drama lead to their demise. After a 15-year separation the trio reunited in an attempt to recapture their fame. The series will follow Swv as they write new music, tour and finally face the issues that ended their friendship and their careers once before. Sisters With Voices is produced by Entertainment One Television and executive produced by Tara Long, John Morayniss, Jeff Hervert, Howie Miller and Jennifer Long. Kate Farrell serves as executive producer for WEtv.
