Simu Liu is going back to the future. Well, like, five minutes into the future.
Peacock has given a straight-to-series order for an untitled espionage series starring Liu, in which the “Barbie” actor will play first-generation-American intelligence analyst Alexander Hale. He realizes his brain has been hacked, giving the perpetrators access to everything he sees and hears.
James Wan is among the executive producers on the series, which was written and created by Thomas Brandon (“Legacies”). Other EPs on the project include Michael Clear and Rob Hackett from Wan’s Atomic Monster. Danielle Bozzone will oversee the project for the production company, which recently merged with Jason Blum’s Blumhouse.
Wan/Atomic Monster and UCP/Peacock are already collaborating on a contemporary horror thriller now titled “Teacup.” Ian McCulloch is writing that one, and executive producing alongside Wan.

When Mandy Moore was first approached about starring in Season 2 of “Dr. Death,” she was ready to branch out.
“I just was so excited to take on something that just felt different from anything I’ve ever done before,” Moore told TheWrap. The Peacock original marks the first major television series the actor has starred in since the conclusion of “This Is Us.” But it was the knowledge that Édgar Ramírez would be part of this project as well that really sold the actress on the series.
“We both love Season 1, and I just knew we were going to make something special,” Moore said.
“We really wanted to work together. When I heard that Mandy wanted to do it, I was so happy,” Ramírez told TheWrap, noting that he felt like the planets were going to “align” for them on this project.

Few true stories are as harrowing, grisly, or baffling as the ones presented on Wondery's "Dr. Death" podcast. The hit series investigates the stories of fraudulent, overconfident, often manipulative medical professionals who seem to purposely and pathologically put their patients' lives at risk. The first season, about spine-maiming Dr. Christopher Duntsch, who's now serving life in prison, captured listeners' attention when it debuted in 2018 and went on to inspire the Peacock series of the same name.
But the other seasons of "Dr. Death" are just as disturbing, and now, the Critics Choice-nominated drama series is set to return as an anthology. The second season will tell another story fans of the Wondery podcast will be familiar with: that of Dr. Paolo Macchiarini. Here's everything we know so far about the second installment of the series about horrendous medical malpractice.

There are 110 submissions on the 2022 Emmys ballot for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Movie Writing, resulting in six nominees. As a reminder, last year’s winner was “I May Destroy You” (Michaela Coel) and the other nominees were “The Queen’s Gambit” (Scott Frank), “Mare of Easttown” (Brad Inglesby) and three episodes from “Wandavision”.
The low number of entries in this year’s Best Limited/Movie Writing category can be attributed to the fact that all the top contenders have submitted only one or two episodes from their series when given the option. Danny Strong, a previous winner for “Game Change” in this category a decade ago, entered the “Dopesick” finale, “The People vs. Purdue Pharma.” Other programs that submitted their final episodes were “Maid” (“Snaps”) and “Station Eleven” (“Unbroken Circle”) by their respective showrunners Molly Smith Metzler and Patrick Somerville, which is not a bad method given that seven...

“There’s not a lot of similarities, but one similarity is the quick switch of emotion and being able in just a split second to go from utter despair to being elated or vice versa,” explains Elle Fanning about starring in both the second season of “The Great” and the limited series “The Girl From Plainville,” in which she portrays two completely different characters. “I only had two weeks between the second season [of ‘The Great’] and ‘Plainville,’ which was very obviously different head space to be living in,” she shares. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“At the end of the day, the ‘created by’ is still your name. The final product is all that matters. It doesn’t matter how you got there, it doesn’t matter whose idea it was, it just matters in the final product,” declares writer/producer Patrick Macmanus on what he believes is the key to a great creator and showrunner, i.e. the ability to collaborate for the greater good of the project you’re bringing to life on screen.
For our recent webchat he adds, “If you’re doing your job correctly, then you are definitely not the smartest one and you are definitely not the most talented one,” he says. “You need to be able to check your ego at the door and let people do their jobs and that doesn’t mean that you’re not still guiding things, it doesn’t mean that you take everything everybody says,...
