Taking the fashionable genre as a starting point, Ric Rawlings’ film tries to elevate amateurism in three creepy rural stories but it just looks inept
Those interested in the concept of rewilding, a form of environmental conservation that seeks to restore land to a more natural state as popularised by the book by Isabella Tree, should be well advised that this film has nothing to do with that. Rather, it is an almost endearingly amateurish package, written and directed by Ric Rawlins, that is an exercise in something that’s almost as fashionable these days: folk horror. There’s lashings of folk horror about these days, some of it, like Enys Men, very good. Rewilding, however, is not very good, if we are being honest. But it’s as folky as you get, telling three disconnected stories set in the West Country and Wales revolving around such folky elements as spooky coastal caves,...

Guardians of the Galaxy became a huge success after Marvel Studios decided to take a B-list comic and then turn it into one of their most surprising and successful franchises. I know I’m not alone in feeling that the movie is Marvel's best work to date, and possibly one of the best films of all time. Guardians of the Galaxy has everything; it makes you laugh, it has a huge story line, wonderful characters, great cinematography, and it will make you cry -- especially if you have lost someone to cancer.
After loyal Marvel geeks got a peek at some footage of the anticipated follow up, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, fans eagerly awaited the day they’d get thrown a bone. It wasn’t along before we got a taste in the form of a “Sneak Peek.

Hour 5 is live.
About the hour:
Our latest 75-minute hour starts out with an intro that stretches the bounds of relevancy just a bit, but I do think I bring it around to fit by the end of it. At least that is how I am spinning it. It also gives me free-reign to play some music that means a lot to me while tying it to the topic at hand.
In Hour 5, I spend some more time running the numbers around spines and release schedules. This time around I focus on the 5″ disc days which tend to behave much more nicely than that 12″ shenanigans that were discussed back in Hour 2.
Our Criterion Conversation this time around comes from the other side of the world. John Mathews is the co-host of the Director’s Suite Cast and turned out to be a fantastic guest for our focus on collecting Criterion.

This is not a drill. The first teaser for Star Wars: Rogue One dropped Thursday on Good Morning America, and fans can barely handle the prospect of another epic installment in the franchise hitting theaters in just a few short months. The standalone prequel to 1977's Star Wars: Episode IV stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, an orphan turned Rebellion fighter who is tasked with infiltrating the infamous Death Star. Star Wars diehards flooded Twitter with reactions to the gritty first look, and the general consensus seems to be "we're pretty damn excited": thoughts on #RogueOne teaser pic.

★★☆☆☆ Former wrestler Dwayne Johnson's name has become synonymous with movies that describe themselves as high-octane and adrenaline fuelled. Ric Roman Waugh's Snitch (2013), an action-thriller is another one of those films but with its sights set on a moral high ground. Eugene Jarecki's The House I Live In (2012) brought to attention, the complexities of the Us's war on drugs and the distressing ten-year sentence handed out to drug criminals. Here, facts are fictionalised, garnished with action, and burdened with family drama. Johnson stars as John Matthews, a successful executive at the top of his game.
Matthews' wayward son Jason (Ray Gavron) becomes unknowingly tangled in an illicit drug scam that results in him being arrested for trafficking. He's then approached by a politically ambitious Us Attorney Joanne Keeghan (Susan Sarandon) and told that should he manufacture evidence against other members of the cartel, his sentence will be reduced.

With Dwayne Johnson's action thriller Snitch coming to Sky Store, we spoke to his co-star Barry Pepper. Johnson plays John Matthews, who offers to go undercover for the Drugs Enforcement Agency when his teenage son is busted on a minor drug offence and is suddenly looking at decades behind bars. We caught up with Pepper, who plays DEA agent Cooper, and star of such five star movies as Saving Private Ryan and The 25th Hour.

First off, let me apologize for no Raw thoughts this week. I haven’t been feeling that well lately. That’s no excuse for not having content up. But I just want to let you know what’s going on.
Raw definitely saw a lot of interesting things. We saw interactions between Randy Orton and Shawn Michaels setting up Hell in a Cell. Punk beat the clock and put himself in a handicap match with Ryback and Paul Heyman in Satan’s structure. Plus, we got great matches from Daniel Bryan and Alberto del Rio and a great tag team title match between the Rhodes family against Rollins and Reigns of the Shield.
The title change this past Monday definitely shook up the landscape of WWE. The tag division is getting focused on once again as the Usos are looking for their shot against the new gatekeepers. Along with that...

Although it might be a little lighter on action than most films featuring Dwayne .The Rock. Johnson, Snitch is a solid crime thriller that finds Johnson flexing his acting muscles as a father forced into a life and death situation to help his son avoid a life in prison. Inspired by true events, Snitch was directed by Ric Roman Waugh (2008.s underrated film Felon) who also handled writing chores with Justin Haythe and stars Johnson, Barry Pepper (sporting very bad and distracting facial hair), Jon Bernthal, Susan Sarandon, Michael Kenneth Williams, Rafi Gavron, Harold Perrineau, and Benjamin Bratt (who isn't used enough in the film). John Matthews (Johnson) has his life together and is enjoying huge success...

Despite some success and acclaim for roles in the Fast and Furious franchise and above par kiddie fare, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has never really been given a role with enough meat to make people forget he was once (and still is really, if only part time) a wrestler. Not that this is a bad thing, look back on his career and you can see through his mike work that he was busy honing his skills for his future career, but people are still going to judge. So along comes Snitch, a crime drama, inspired by true events, that see's Johnson as John Matthews, a father who agrees to go undercover to snag a high level drug supplier in an effort to reduce his son's prison sentence, after he was set up as part of the U.S. Government's madatory minimum sentencing laws. Admittedly, it does give Johnson a chance...

★★★☆☆ Through course of association, the merest reference to former wrestling superstar Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson automatically brings to mind testosterone-filled actioners, and for good reason; this year alone the actor has starred in the enjoyable Fast & Furious 6 and the not-so-enjoyable G.I. Joe: Retaliation. With Snitch (2013), however, Johnson's machismo is dialled down in favour of a more nuanced character study (in addition to a commentary on drug laws). As a result, what could have easily been yet another unintelligent explosion-fest turns out to be a likeable thriller - and audiences are all the better for it.

Dwayne Johnson may be best known as a wham bam action hero, but in Snitch the man who propelled himself to fame with the people's eyebrow makes a sidestep into more dramatic territory. Ric Roman Waugh’s latest drama, Snitch, touches up on the hot topic of prison sentences related to drug busts. The problem with Snitch is it features action star Dwayne Johnson in a film with very little action. Snitch is an over-dramatic procedural drama that attempts to lay it on heavy with its over-acting and cookie-cutter characters that add up to zilch. The film works fine for straight-to-dvd material, but never overcomes its numerous problems to make it worth seeking out in a theater or paying full price for.
John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) is a hard-working middle-class American that’s just trying to support his family by running his own construction company. His son from his first marriage gets mixed up in some large drug trafficking business that lands him a prison sentence with a minimum of ten years jail time, despite this being his first offense. Now, Matthews has insisted on helping the D.

This week will be no exception as we have the greatness of two Englishman behind the booth in Wade Barrett and William Regal. The United Kingdom definitely made a world of difference in how the product was presented on both programs. Let’s begin looking at this week’s edition of Main Event.
Just a few days away from Payback in Chicago, there was definitely a wind of change on commentary this week. The three-man booth of Ricardo Rodriguez, the Miz and John Matthews of the last few weeks was dropped (no surprise there) in favor of guest commentator Intercontinental champion, Wade Barrett alongside Josh Matthews.. Film: "Snitch"; Actors: Dwayne Johnson, Barry Pepper, Jon Bernthal, Susan Sarandon, Rafi Gavron, Michael K. Williams, Melina Kanakaredes and Nadine Valazquez; Director: Ric Roman Waugh; Rating: *1/2 - dull and tedious.
"Snitch" starts off as a social drama and turns into a crime thriller. It is a lengthy, talky melodrama into which a couple of skilled stunt sequences are crammed.
Based on true events, "Snitch" is the story of how John Mathews (Dwayne Johnson), a small business owner in the construction trade takes great risk in a desperate attempt to save his college bound son, Jason (Rafi Gavron) from.

New 'Snitch' movie delivered great action, drama, plotline & more. Summit Entertainment (Lionsgate) released their new action/thriller flick "Snitch" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it and thought it was great as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's character served up a shitload of action in an effort to free his son from prison by bringing down a large drug cartel. The movie stars: Dwayne Johnson, Susan Sarandon, Benjamin Bratt, Barry Pepper, Jon Bernthal, Michael Kenneth Williams, Nadine Velazquez, Melina Kanakaredes, Lela Loren, Harold Perrineau, and Rafi Gavron. In the new flick, character John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) is the owner of a successful small construction company and his son ,Jason, gets setup by one of his friends to accept a package of drugs that arrives in the mail. Apparently, it's part of a big sting operation where they get people who have been busted for drugs to set up...

Good news for Dwayne Johnson. His new action flick, "Snitch," is leading the weekend with $4.14 million across 2,511 theaters on Friday. The year 2013 has been front-loaded with action. Four of The Expendables had films open. The Gangster Squad had fun with their Tommy Guns, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters blew the hell out of gigantic monsters, and Django Unchained and Zero Dark Thirty continue to blast away until the Oscars. But it's Dwayne Johnson, action superstar of 2013, with at four action films in four months (starting now), who brings 2013's opening to a close. Unfortunately, his movie is Snitch, a low-fuel, gear-grinding thriller that never begins to edge the excitement forward or twist the tension. It's a pretty blah way to kick-off spring. Inspired by true events, Snitch has Johnson front and center as John Matthews, owner of a shipping company who is estranged from his first family, particularly his teenage son, Jason (Rafi Gavron). Jason's world gets a little rockier one day when he signs for a Ups package from a friend,...

A well-meaning but lumbering drama that feels like an extended prologue in search of an action movie, Snitch represents a good-faith attempt by Dwayne Johnson to stretch himself as an actor. Johnson became an action star based on his affable, pleasant personality and an intimidating physical presence. Like many action stars, however, Johnson has evidenced a desire to widen out. Thus, he has taken dramatic and comic supporting roles, began appearing in family-friendly movies, and even exposed a darker, more violent side in 2010's Faster, which worked pretty well because the action was propulsive and nearly continuous. In Snitch, Johnson aims to establish himself as a dramatic actor, with a minimum of action heroics. He plays John Matthews, the owner of a successful construction company...

Snitch is “inspired by true events.” Which is to say, it centers around a real-life choice mandated by the justice system for prisoners arrested on drug charges: become an informant, or face lengthy jail time. This preface gives the wrong impression though since the characters in this film don’t exactly have real-life counterparts. If they did, well… then they would probably have to be as jacked as Dwayne Johnson. Snitch, directed and co-scripted by former stuntman Ric Roman Waugh, may have cheated somewhat with this veil of supposed truth, but he does succeed in making a consistently entertaining film that certainly delivers with its action sequences and many winning performances from its very strong cast. Unfortunately it also falls short plot-wise, somewhat detracting from its overall action film bravado, and has some pacing issues too thanks to staggered action sequences. John Matthews (Johnson) is a very successful and hulking owner of a construction company. He...

“Snitch” may not be the movie you’ve been lead to believe. Trailers and TV spots make it out to be an adrenaline-charged man movie for men, full of explosions, gun fights, car chases, and, you know, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson taking down a vicious drug cartel to save his son. That’s one hell of a dad right there. While all of this does come into play, the high-octane stuff is relatively minimal. Hell, the only time the Rock gets into a physical altercation he gets his ass handed to him by a couple of punk kids. The whole movie is Johnson playing against type. He’s not a badass, he’s not a hero, he’s just a concerned parent, and this easily ranks among the former professional wrestler’s best performances to date. Los Angeles — Although it sometimes accompanies fine films such as "Zero Dark Thirty" and "Argo," the phrase "inspired by a true story" tacked onto the front of a movie too often warns you that you're about to see something "inspiring" in the most hackneyed, triumph-of-the-human-spirit sort of way.
What's surprising about "Snitch" is that, rather than taking the reductive path of offering innocuous emotional uplift or one-man-army action, it generates a feeling of real desperation and fear as it shows a man getting in way over his head when he takes on some very bad guys. In other words, this is a pretty good film starring an actor named Dwayne Johnson, not a commodity with The Rock as a hood ornament.
Summit's main commercial hopes still rest with the mainstream action crowd – which likely will be satisfied despite the film's refusal to dish out doses of bodily harm like clockwork – but for Johnson,...

At the beginning of Snitch you'll be told it was inspired by actual events. That's true, to a limit. Yes, a man's son was wrongly accused of selling drugs after a friend set him up. As a result, the kid faced the ten year mandatory minimum for the federal crime, though he was offered a deal to help the government rack up some more convictions and decrease his sentence. He declined. From there the film and the true story radically part ways as writer/director (and one-time stuntman) Ric Roman Waugh (co-written by Justin Haythe) does his best to tell a measured dramatic thriller, but measured becomes "drawn out" as the pacing of this piece is unfortunately uneven. You can almost feel the film trying to contain itself, holding back rather than becoming the action film the trailers suggest. But if that was the goal why in the world did they cast Dwayne Johnson?...

Plot: After his son is caught in a DEA sting for trafficking drugs, John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson)- desperately cuts a deal with the federal prosecutor (Susan Sarandon), where he.ll go undercover setting up dealers, in exchange for his son.s release. Review: Snitch is very atypical for The Rock. Usually, he acts in either hardcore action, or big-budget family movies. Snitch is certainly not the latter, but neither is it the action flick it.s being positioned as. Directed by Ric Roman Waugh...

Latino-Review.com had an opportunity to interview an up-and-coming director Ric Roman Waugh. Waugh was a stuntman turned director, who got Hollywood’s attention with 2008’s prison film “Felon.” His name was attached to several projects, but “Snitch” will mark his return in the director’s chair since 2008.
“Snitch” is a film based on a true story about a father (played by Dwayne Johnson) who needed to go undercover in the drug world for the DEA in order to free his imprisoned son. The film has an all-star cast including Susan Sarandon, Barry Pepper, Jon Bernthal, Michael Kenneth Williams, Nadine Velazquez and Benjamin Bratt.
Latino-Review managed to interview Waugh twice via telephone for an extensive look into his movie “Snitch.” We discussed a very in-depth look into the story and background of “Snitch.” And we even discussed about his stuntman past and his future in directing.
“Snitch” will be in theaters tomorrow.

Dwayne Johnson saves the day in Ric Roman Waugh’s “Snitch”, opening later this Friday. Until then, check out six clips from the upcoming film. It’s supposedly based on a true story. Well, as true-ish as you can get these days when you cast the role with a 6’4″ Samoan/Californian covered in tattoos, I mean. Hey, in Hollywood, that’s like really close to being super true. Dwayne Johnson stars as John Matthews, a businessman hit hard when his teenage son is wrongfully ensnared in a drug bust and threatened with a terrifying 10-30 years in federal prison (under the Us government’s draconian minimum drug sentencing laws). The only option to reduce the sentence is to “snitch.” A desperate Matthews makes a deal with the politically ambitious federal prosecutor (Sarandon) and infiltrates the operation of a violent drug dealer (Williams). When his amateur undercover work unexpectedly exposes a...

Though Snitch loudly announces itself as a social-issues movie, its nominal outrage over the severity of our nation's sentencing laws for first-time drug offenders is quickly subsumed by a jacked-up narrative of a father going to extremes to save his son. Inspired by a real-life incident detailed in a 1999 episode of Frontline, the film tracks construction-company magnate John Matthews (Dwayne Johnson) as he offers to go undercover to nab drug dealers in exchange for a reduced prison sentence for his estranged 18-year-old son, Jason (Rafi Gavron). The teenager, still apparently smarting over his parents' divorce, faces 10 years in jail for accepting a package filled with Ecstasy and refuses to concoct evidence against a friend to lessen his time behind bars. In order to a...

If you think you know exactly what to expect from a movie starring Dwayne Johnson, better known all over the world by his wrestling name "The Rock," then you haven't seen Snitch , the new crime thriller by Ric Roman Waugh ( Felon ) which has Johnson playing John Matthews, an everyman father who gets involved in dangerous cartel drug deals in order to get his son out of jail. That concept may sound outlandish or something we might only see in a Hollywood action movie, but in fact it's based on a real story that showed what's so wrong with the federal mandatory minimum laws where people could get thrown into jail for decades unless they're ready to play ball and lead the Drug Enforcement Agency to bigger fish. ComingSoon.net attended the New York junket for the movie a...

This weekend, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson begins his season-long domination of the box office with "Snitch," a suspenseful crime thriller based on true events. In the film, Johnson plays John Matthews, a working stiff who hasn't had much time for his son ever since a nasty divorce. But when his kid gets arrested for drug possession, Matthews must do whatever it takes to help him out. When he learns that his boy will be going to jail for a mandatory minimum of ten years -- unless he can hand over the identities of additional drug dealers -- Matthews strikes an unusual bargain with a U.S. attorney (played by Susan Sarandon) to do the dirty work himself and rat out the dangerous criminals. So how does the movie stack up? Moviefone breaks down the pros and cons of "Snitch." (Warning: Spoilers Ahead!) Pro: It's Pretty Good, Actually The Rock's acting...

Dwayne Johnson flexes his muscles in a new batch of images from Ric Roman Waugh’s “Snitch”, due to put those fools in their place later this month. That would be in jail, in case you’re wondering where that “place” is. Either that or in the ground, but since the film is only rated PG-13, any death probably won’t feature Benjamin Bratt perforating some dudes with the M60 as featured in the pic above. Summit will be heading to the Super Bowl this weekend promoting Snitch, the latest action-thriller that sees Dwayne Johnson front and centre.
With estimates of around $3.75m. per 30 seconds at this year’s big game, Summit must be feeling good about the Johnson-led movie coming our way later this month. And the Super Bowl is naturally about as big a platform as a movie can have to reign in an audience.

Dwayne Johnson goes undercover to save his son in Ric Roman Waugh’s “Snitch”, which has released a new 30-second spot that we’re told will be shown during the Super Bowl, but you won’t have to wait that long to see it, cause, well, here it is. (You should still watch the Super Bowl, though. If, you know, you’re into that sort of thing.) I’m not sure if Johnson’s character is supposed to be a “regular” guy here (albeit one with huge biceps, tattoos, a bald head, and bitchin’ facial hair), or if he’s some ex-Special Forces/cop/badass mercenary. The synopsis below doesn’t really say: Dwayne Johnson stars as John Matthews, a businessman hit hard when his teenage son is wrongfully ensnared in a drug bust and threatened with a terrifying 10-30 years in federal prison (under the Us government’s draconian...

I still can’t get over the fact that The Rock is playing a character with a teenage son in “Snitch”. It just feels … weird somehow. He’s actually old enough that this could very well be true in real life, but still, in the movies it kinda feels wrong for some reason. Anyways, here’s a new trailer for “Snitch”, in which The Rock takes on some bad guys in order to free his son from prison. Personally I think the better movie might be if The Rock busted his son out of prison. Or went undercover in the prison to protect him. You know, sort of like a big-screen version of “Prison Break”. Maybe they’ll go in that direction for the sequel… Dwayne Johnson stars as John Matthews, a businessman hit hard when his teenage son is wrongfully ensnared in a drug bust and threatened with a...

Dwayne Johnson returns to the big screen this year in a very big way, kicking things off next month in the Us with Snitch, his first solo leading role since 2010’s Faster.

Dwayne Johnson has seen his film career take a meteoric rise in recent years, with last year’s Fast Five being a big part of that success. 2013 is set to be another big year for him, and Snitch will kick things off in February, giving him a chance to shine as the lead in the action-thriller.
The first trailer debuted last month, and with just under two months before it hits the big screen in the States, the first poster has now made its way online too.

Dwayne Johnson will snitch on your ass — and then probably bash your head in, too. Check out the first trailer for Johnson’s “Snitch”, where he plays a father trying to get his kid out of prison by going undercover to bust some bad guys. Apparently based on a true story (or, well, true story-ish with Huge helping of creative license, would be my guess), the film certainly looks intense and explosive enough. Plus, it features Shane from “The Walking Dead” as The Rock’s buddy. Hopefully, the Rock hasn’t introduced Shane to his wife, cause you know how he is around married women… Dwayne Johnson stars as John Matthews, a businessman hit hard when his teenage son is wrongfully ensnared in a drug bust and threatened with a terrifying 10-30 years in federal prison (under the Us government’s draconian minimum drug sentencing laws). Due out in February 2013, first on his slate will be Snitch, an action/thriller that sees Johnson take the lead, and now Summit have released the first trailer.
