Though the end of the year is mainly the mainstay of serious and somber award-seeking films, there’s almost always room for family-friendly flicks. After all, there has to be a break from all the hectic holiday preparations, and what better way to relax than getting off your feet in one of those swell reclining plush multiplex chairs? So, the “mouse house” will arrive shortly with a slick fantasy fable, but how about their “major ‘toon rival”? Well, the fine folks at Dreamworks are completing a trilogy begun seven years ago when they put a new spin on a beloved baby boomer toy. Much of that spin involves music, as the lil’ critters interpreted classic (and some brand new) pop tunes. This makes their third outing feel a bit foreshadowed as those Trolls Band Together.
This new outing begins with a flashback to the final performance of the huge Troll boy band BroZone.

In the summer of 2019, famed Woodstock producer Michael Lang dropped into his old friend Peter Max’s art studio on West 65th Street in New York City. Max, 84, one of the most celebrated and influential pop artists of the past century, was holding court at the studio where, for some 30 years prior, he’d painted portraits of everyone from Mick Jagger to presidents Clinton and Obama to Taylor Swift in his signature, rainbow-hued style. His colorful works lined the walls. Max’s only daughter, Libra, was by his side.

The Lucas Brothers are finally back on your TV.
The twin comedians will be featured in their first Netflix comedy special, “The Lucas Brothers: On Drugs,” which will premiere April 18. On Tuesday, the streaming service released its first trailer for the special, which you can watch below.
In the special filmed at The Bell House in New York, the Lucas Brothers take on a variety of topics in their signature, laid-back style. Their set ranges from twin stereotypes and Richard Nixon to ingenious plans to fix pay inequality and police brutality. Oh, and drugs. As one might expect, drugs are a huge part of their comedy.
“Here’s a rule of thumb,” says Kenny (or is it Keith?) in the trailer below. “You should never do ‘shrooms with a dude that looks like you, man.”
The trailer also includes some nifty Peter Max-style psychedelic animations. Take a look:...

In the face of all this outrageous fortune, Michèle remains cool, calm and collected, even in the aftermath of her own harrowing sexual assault.
Elle, the new film from the Dutch provocateur Paul Verhoeven, begins with that already infamous assault, our heroine struggling under the weight of her attacker while an unblinking cat perches nearby, watching.

Remember when Andy Warhol used to make pop art portraits of beautiful people like Marilyn Monroe? Well, it seems that pop artist Peter Max has found his Monroe in the form of the equally blond (though far less tragic) Taylor Swift.
Max recently put his extra-colorful spin on Taylor's Speak Now album cover, reinterpreting it as a collage of rainbow bursts. He took a similar take on Taylor's Fearless artwork earlier this year. And while the artist has personally given these portraits to the singer as gifts in the past, and even had them on display in galleries, they are now available for public consumption.
"I've been doing portraits of iconic musicians for so many years, and it is a pleasure to add Taylor Swift to the collection," Mad Max said in a statement about the latest portrait he's created for the singer. "She is one of the most beautiful...

Taylor Swift is receiving the ultimate (and colorful!) early birthday gift from iconic artist Peter Max. The pop artist has painted a vibrant portrait of Swift's Speak Now album cover. And it's not the first time the Grammy winner, who turns 21 Monday, has been Max's muse: He painted four versions of her Fearless album cover earlier this year, which he gave to her as a gift. (One version of the painting is now hanging in Swift's Nashville apartment.) The portraits commemorate another milestone for Swift. Max's inspiration, Speak Now, was just certified triple-platinum earlier this week by the Recording Industry Association of America.

F-r-double-e-d, D-o-m spells Freedom! We fight for freedom, for one and for all!
It’s you-and-me-dom, and ten foot tall! Freedom, freedom, and oh-can-you-see-dom!
We’ll always beat ‘em with star-spangled freedom!
Another Independence Day has come and gone in the USA, but before we bundle up the bunting, furl up the flags and blaze that last pack of firecrackers, let’s take a few minutes to celebrate the meaning and grandeur behind all that traditional hoopla: I’m talkin’ about Freedom!
Yeah, Freedom, that wonderful essential quality of life we all enjoy here in America, unique among the nations in granting Freedom as a birthright to its natural born and duly assimilated citizens. Freedom, that allows us to choose our own destiny, chart our own course, shrug off the rules that don’t apply to us and righteously snuff out any and all tyrants that dare to stand in our way.

Kasseem 'Swizz Beatz' Dean has revealed that he is an art collector and has been creating his own paintings for years. The producer/rapper said that he will be displaying his work through his Kitchen Art company, which he runs with Peter Max. Beatz told Global Grind: "I love art. I love all kinds of paintings. I got into drawing and creating my own paintings years ago. The beautiful thing about art is no one can ever be right or wrong. It's all in the eye of the beholder. "It's your own interpretation of the art you are looking at which makes it great or timeless. The Da Vinci's, the Van Gogh's, these are artistic greats and they have some of the most beautiful paintings in the world. I'm an art collector. So I can genuinely (more)...

When a star says "we're all winners" from the podium of an awards show, it's no joke. Because even the celebrities who are there just to hand out the honors are likely to leave the building with tens of thousands of dollars worth of freebies, including trips, fine leather goods and exotic car rentals. "A lot of people ask the talent department what the gift basket is (and) what's in it before they do the show," says Dennis Lumpkin, event coordinator at Culver City-based event and gift basket company Sequoia Prods., which creates baskets for the Emmy Awards, the NAACP Image Awards and several other events. "It becomes very sought-after". Goody bags have been transformed in recent years from collections of desirable-but-modest trinkets to lavish packages valued in the five-figure range. While the majority of folks attending Hollywood-tied events get nice handouts including high-end cosmetics and DVDs, that stuff is for amateurs compared to the celebrity swag. The "basket" for the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards last month, created by Santa Monica-based Backstage Creations, was actually a 4-foot-long 200-pound trunk wrapped with artwork by Peter Max. It was valued at well over $20,000 -- not an unusual amount these days for a major awards show basket.
