The consolidation in the talent representation space continues. Agency for the Performing Arts and music touring agency Artist Group International (Agi) are merging, with the combined full-service agency rebranded as Independent Artist Group (Iag). APA President Jim Osborne is being named CEO of Iag, with Dennis Arfa, founder and CEO of Agi, as Chairman of the Music Division of Iag. Former longtime APA CEO Jim Gosnell will serve on the board of Agi alongside Osborne and Arfa.
Agi was founded 35 years ago by Arfa and acquired by Ron Burkle’s Yucaipa Entertainment in 2012. The client roster that it brings to Iag includes Billy Joel, Metallica, Def Leppard, Rod Stewart, Motley Crue, Linkin Park, Jane’s Addiction, Daryl Hall & John Oates, Norah Jones, Neil Young, The Strokes, Smashing Pumpkins, Ghost and Elvis Costello.
Jim Osborne and Dennis Arfa
The merger, which had been rumored for awhile, stems from an agreement between APA and Yucaipa Entertainment.

Spencer Proffer, Steve Binder, Joe Berlinger join forces for 2018 production start on ‘The Colonel’.
Music and media producer Spencer Proffer, producer-director Steve Binder and filmmaker Joe Berlinger have teamed up to bring the profile of long-time music manager Colonel Tom Parker to the big screen.
Parker, who died in 1997 aged 87, was a music business entrepreneur who lived an intriguing personal life. He arrived in America as a 20-year old undocumented Dutch immigrant, and took great pains to hide his past. According to biographer Alanna Nash, he may have been involved in a murder in his native Holland.
Berlinger will direct from a screenplay based on Nash’s 2003 book The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story Of Colonel Tom Parker And Elvis Presley, published by Simon & Schuster. It was one of four books Nash authored on Presley.

An opening of Heavy Metal icons such Slash, Lemmy and Lars Ulrich singing the praises of a band you’ve never heard of makes you think it’s all just a Spinal Tap style spoof. But no, after never quite hitting the big time in the early 80s, Canadian Metal band Anvil have still been plugging away despite the lack of success – at the beginning of the film frontman Steve “Lips” Kudlow is having to make a living delivering school dinners in Toronto! When filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky arrived in West Memphis, Arkansas in June 1993, they came with an agenda: to document what looked like a new wave of alienated youth-turned-murderers. A few months earlier, two 10-year-olds in the U.K. had made headlines when they abducted, tortured and murdered a two-year-old, and now the filmmakers had read about the brutal murders of three eight-year-old boys ostensibly committed by teenage Satanists. It seemed like a trend. "We went down to make a film about guilty teenagers, like a real Rivers Edge,...

Metallica’s lead singer, James Hetfield, rocked out on the vocals while also playing a colorful, small horn. Drummer Lars Ulrich banged on a tiny bongo drum.
The entire group wore Metallica, Tonight Show, and Roots T-shirts and looked like they were having a blast on the acoustic rendition.

Ron Howard’s Inferno is a less-interesting National Treasure that continues a dull parade of 2016 dad-thrillers (The Accountant/Jack Reacher: Never Go Back) that waste bolstered casts (Tom Hanks/Felicity Jones) and/or previous successes. It’s the third Da Vinci Code movie adaptation (second sequel), coming seven years long after 2009’s Angels & Demons. Not sure who was clamoring for another one of these, but here it is!
More secret agencies and philosophical theories, more old white dudes trying to solve mysteries, more country-jumping as a wanted criminal – you know the routine by now, and unfortunately, it’s not getting any better. Only diehard Hankies (how I classify Tom Hanks fans) should heed Metallica’s words and jump in the fire (Fi-yah, technically), while the rest of us go watch SNL’s far-superior David S. Pumpkin sketch twenty more times to get our T-Hanks fix.

Penelope Spheeris, director of the 1988 heavy metal documentary Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years, fondly said late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister "brought the term 'no Bs' to new heights" in an interview with Billboard.
Kilmister featured prominently in Decline II, which offered an invaluable, in-depth look at heavy metal's cultural dominance in the Eighties, from the fans and wannabe bands on the Sunset Strip to the lionized rockers whose egos were often more blown out than their hair. Save, Kilmister.

The “Killkini” Lives
As it is officially summer, it is my sworn duty as Destroy the Brain’s fashion consultant to bring to you the latest in horror inspired warm weather wear. As I’ve often said in this column, the worlds of horror and heavy metal are forever intertwined. So I’ve also included a few items that will appeal to those of you with headbanging tendencies.
First up is the slightly ridiculous silicone “Killkini” (pictured above, $80) from Denver, Colorado shop, Blood Lust Productions. This itsy-bitsy-teeny-weenie Brazilian cut number even glows in the dark. Which in my estimation will only make you easier to find while you’re being chased by a deranged slasher in a hockey mask, that just so happens to match the one on your crotch. But as bizarre as the Killkini is, Blood Lust took swimwear to the next level of hell with the creation of the “Necronomokini.

Metallica fans can rest easy -- the Lars Ulrich underwear saga known as thong-gate is finally coming to an end and the bare-assed truth is ... the thong is all an illusion. For any non-headbangers out there -- the Mighty Met drummer was photographed fluttering away on his hi-hat and snares at Vegas’ Rock in Rio concert over the weekend ... and it sure looked like he was sporting a sexy red thong while he did it.

Lars Ulrich has made his handful of enemies over the years as Metallica‘s outspoken drummer and one of the leaders of the anti-piracy movement that eventually shut down Napster—but J.K. Simmons might be his match. In a mashup no one knew they wanted but absolutely needed, Simmons’ portrayal of the hotheaded jazz band teacher in Whiplash is fused together with footage of Ulrich. The scene from the Oscar-nominated film is a particularly tense one where Simmons not-so-patiently tries to get a drummer on his tempo. Related: 2 Guys Made Metallica’s ‘St. Anger’ Even More Metal If you’re wondering how Ulrich would hypothetically react to that kind of berating, the answer according to this clip will definitely surprise you. In real life, Ulrich and his band are doing just fine having recently held down a residency on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and announced their plans...

“Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” was lauded in 2004 for its honest examination of one of the world’s most successful heavy metal bands teetering on the brink of implosion. But a decade later Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich and directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky revealed how the documentary also helped guide them through low points in their professional careers.
“The making of the movie was one of the most extraordinary experiences in my life,” Berlinger told TheWrap. “Precisely because it came at such a vulnerable time.”
But the movie didn’t just document Ulrich and frontman James Hetfield’s contentious relationship; it affected it.

Nearly all of this year's Grammy nominees have been announced, with album of the year contenders still to be unveiled tonight. Looking at the nominees for visual media — i.e. film and TV stuff — we have a mix of Oscar nominees and winners from last year and potential contenders for this year. Let's take a look… At the top, big ups to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their "Gone Girl" score landing a nomination. It might be the best score of the year, in my opinion, and I'm crossing my fingers that the Academy's music branch is as cool as they were in 2010 for nominating "The Social Network." Also in there is "The Grand Budapest Hotel," one of a few scores from Alexandre Desplat in Oscar contention this season ("The Imitation Game" and "Unbroken" will be eligible for Grammys next year). Last year's Best Original Score Oscar winner Steven Price was nominated for "Gravity,...

Metallica continued their week-long The Late Late Show residency on Tuesday with a blistering version of "Fuel," their Grammy-nominated single from 1997's ReLoad. James Hetfield delivered the pseudo-rapped intro ("Gimme fuel, gimme fire, gimme that which I desire") with his usual intensity, while Kirk Hammett handled the heavy lifting on the bluesy, accelerating riff.
Craig Ferguson jokingly introduced the band as "a bunch of kids trying their luck in show business," emphasizing their good hygiene. The metal legends were promoting the 10th anniversary Blu-Ray edition of their band documentary Some Kind of Monster,...

The members of Metallica stood at a crossroad. The band was feuding. They.d been together for decades, and the key members . guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich . were pretty sure they didn.t want to rock anymore. at least, not with the band mates they.d been rocking alongside for all these years. At the urging of their manager, the band tried therapy, a process that was captured in the brilliant rock documentary Some Kind of Monster. Ten years later, co-director Joe Berlinger looks back at that time, and on the impact of his film, and swears it kept Metallica from breaking up. Metallica: Some Kind of Monster turns 10 this year, and if you haven.t watched it, you need to rent that through Netflix because it.s one of the best documentaries made in the past decade.
