The two police officers involved in the excessive force case involving Brian Mulligan took to the stand on Wednesday to testify in the civil lawsuit brought against them and the city of Los Angeles by the former co-chairman of Universal Pictures. Both L.A. police officers -- James Nichols and John Miller -- told a similar story of what happened in northeast Los Angeles on the night of May 15 and the morning of May 16, 2012, but it was dramatically different to what the investment banker said happened during his own testimony Tuesday and Wednesday before Judge Gary Klausner. CBS News correspondent John Miller just announced on Wcbs-tv New York that he is going towork for incoming NYPD Commissioner William Bratton. The two worked together when Bratton was NYPD commissioner in the mid-’90s and again when Bratton was La’s commissioner, with Miller focused on terrorism preparedness. The news comes just days after some TV-news navel lint pickers scolded Miller over his 60 Minutes report on the Nsa — the New York Times calling it “a friendly infomercial for the agency.” Miller is a former FBI official who worked with Nsa; some critics said he should have stayed away from the story because of that. Miller responded to the criticism, to the Nyt, saying, “As we constructed it, the Nsa was a story about a debate, not a villain, and we added to that debate with important information. I fail to understand how a shrill argument for the sake of...

NBC News has hired high-profile former NYPD and Lapd topper Bill Bratton as an analyst. It’s part of a trend by news outlets to secure on-air talent with strong law enforcement backgrounds to spearhead coverage of high-profile stories such as the killings in the elementary school in Newtown, the movie theater in Aurora, and at the Boston Marathon. Bratton, the only person to have led four of the country’s largest police forces, was a frequent on-air contributor at various news operations during coverage of the marathon bombing. Bratton will help NBC News catch up to CBS News, which has been getting a lot of attention in this field since hiring John Miller in 2011. Miller has straddled journalism and law enforcement his entire career, beginning as a reporter before migrating to the NYPD (at the request of then-commissioner Bratton),and also working for the Lapd and FBI. On September...

Shortly before his April 19 capture, as he remained hidden and bleeding inside the hull of a boat, Boston Marathon bombings suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev reportedly scrawled a note admitting to the April 15 attack and saying it was in retaliation for American action against Muslims. A law enforcement source also told CNN on Thursday that the message said Dzhokhar, 19, would not miss his older brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, - who had already been killed by police on April 18 - because he would soon be joining him as a martyr in paradise. "When you attack one Muslim, you attack all Muslims," read the note,...
