- During Mollison's time in MILAG, (the Merchant Navy and non-military persons Internment Camp) some of the prisoners attempted to tunnel out of the camp. The tunnel collapsed, and was discovered by the Germans. The prisoners were ordered to assemble on the parade ground. The Camp Commandant, who was a Prussian c.w. monocle, told the prisoners that if they attempted to escape again, they would be shot. Mollison said in a loud "stage whisper" "I think it strange that Jerry built a camp on top of a tunnel". The Commandant said "Very funny, Herr Mollison. You will be the first to be shot". (Statement by Capt. John Campkin, Third Mate of the Shell tanker "Eulima" which was torpedoed by U-186, in 1943, and a fellow prisoner of Mollison at MILAG, to Third Mate Alan Knight, on Shell tanker "Vitrina", 1972).
